Haven’t been there in about 15 years and Feeling very disappointed after having a £14.99 Pizza Hut buffet yesterday. The pizza was so disappointing and the only good bit was the ice cream. Never going back! That’s £30 wasted for me and DH. Does anyone actually like it there?

We like going to Pizza Hut (maybe our local one is one of the better ones) but it really annoys me that the only soft drinks they do are the artificial sweetener ones.

Cineraria · 28/10/2019 09:47

I wouldn't want to go for a meal there really but I did always like a hugely overpriced slice of pizza from the booth in Leicester Square with lots of sprinkly chilli flakes on when I used to walk past it on the way home from a weekly social thing I used to attend before having children. I think it was because it was usually very hot and fresh. I really want some now although I haven't thought of it for ages. Might have to go back for a piece when I stop breastfeeding DS2 who has a milk allergy.

Our local PH is great actually. The staff (esp the manager) are lovely, the food is good, the offers are usually quite decent. Maybe they are franchises and each one is different, quality-wise?

I get coke in a bottle when I go, like I have to in most places since the 'sugar tax'

safariboot · 28/10/2019 10:19

I stopped going to my local one some years back, after one too many visits when the plates and knives were dirty. Boak.

We actually liked the buffet food.

Lhastingsmua · 28/10/2019 10:46

In terms of quality/taste it’s obviously nowhere near authentic Italian pizza but it’s certainly edible - it’s on the same level as dominos or papa johns in my opinion.

It’s like a slight step up from a random takeaway on just eat, but still cheap. I’m not sure what else you were expecting.

RavenLG · 28/10/2019 10:51

I love pizza.. Pizza hut isn't pizza. It's mediocracy topped with substandard cheese. I think the concept of the buffet gets people in because they think it's good value and can eat a lot (quantity over quality).

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 28/10/2019 10:59

DH and I were both really ill after the last time we went. Admittedly that was probably a good 12 years ago now though, but it definitely put me off going back!

BadSun · 28/10/2019 11:40

In the past it was always a bit below Papa John's and Domino's for me. But I was back in England last year and had one and it was really good! They made the bases thinner I think.

Having a pizza made is always better than the buffet where they've been out a while and gone a bit cool and congealed.

And yeah, it's a "takeaway" style pizza, so you have to have certain expectations when you go there.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 28/10/2019 11:51

I would only go to the buffet midweek lunchtime, when it’s only about £8 per adult. Their takeaway pizzas aren’t bad though, especially when they have a deal on.
I agree pizza express is nicer for sitting in, but I think that’s reflected in the price.

BrokenWing · 28/10/2019 12:35

Our local one isn't usually busy so ds and I occasionally go at get the big sharer meal deal. 2 sides, large pizza, unlimited salad, 2 desserts for twenty something pounds. We ask for the sides as starters, the large pizza we take 1/2 of it home boxed for dh. Because it isn't busy it is usually clean and salad bar is normally kept fresh.

Occasionally a pizza will come out soggy/doughy but we'll just say and they'll pop it back in the over for another few mins no problem. I am still pissed off though that a place specialising in pizza and pasta stopped offering grated parmesan.

I've been to busier pizza huts and the meals have been terrible/table sticky etc, so we just stick to our local one.

BeyondMyWits · 28/10/2019 12:42

DD developed an allergy to their cheese a couple of years ago, so no Pizza Hut for us - she is fine with Papa John and Dominos, not Pizza Hut for some reason.

Arnoldthecat · 28/10/2019 12:43

Dont know about pizza hot but Nandos is dire. How can anyone eat that crap?

SistersOfPercy · 28/10/2019 13:21

Our local Papa Johns is dire. Whoever runs that particular franchise has no idea how to cook a pizza.

lazylinguist · 28/10/2019 13:26

Yes it's grim. Pizza Express is better, but still not that great tbh. I don't understand why there aren't more chains that make proper pizzas like you get in Italy. It's not exactly rocket science.

BritishHorrorStory · 28/10/2019 14:31

I hate Dominoes but only because I chipped in a few quid and they all agreed to get the hot dog stuffed crust one delivered. The pizza arrived, which was only warmish but the hot dog crust was cold. Bleugh.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 28/10/2019 15:27

£14.99 for the Pizza Hut buffet? Last time I went I think it was £4.99, mind you I was about 15 so it may have been 20 years ago! That was expensive compared to the McDonald extra value meal at £2.88

Arnoldthecat · 29/10/2019 18:23

If i had a choice i much prefer pizza express. Having said that if i just wanted pizza and not the ambience, i could just go to my local mega tesco and pick up either their pizza express pizzas or finest range for a fraction of the cost and enjoy at home..
