How did I get to 50 and not know this about washing hands?

It’s the rinsing that does it. Loosen the microbes with soap and then they still need rinsed off. I thought soap killed them....

Yup, that's right. That's why antibacterial soaps are not needed at all. Plain soap is fine since it's the rinsing that does the job.

Cold water is ok as well, and much better for my eczema riddled hands

And need to dry them too.
