Adult Advent Calenders

I'm being bombarded with emails about beauty advent calenders and gin advent calendars ( so over gin right now )
Who spends £85 on advent calendars for themselves?
Aren't they a little self indulgent?

Actually, what I would quite like is a nice wooden refillable advent calendar, that I can put little treats in for the days of December

We have a refillable fabric one for the whole family.

I bought myself the Mog the forgetful cat one last year. The pictures were lovely. Got my best mate the pork scratchings calendar.

I bought the Costco gin advent calendar this year, very indulgent indeed and I will enjoy it!

Nothing wrong with a bit of self indulgence.....

AnnaNimmity · 25/10/2019 15:07

oh it's nice OP. And yes of course they are self indulgent. and unnecessary A treat for yourself and it's so nice to open every day. Nothing wrong with being self indulgent every so often.

I have been getting myself one for a few years now since I split with my ex in around 2014, and my DP has been known to buy me one too.

I've got him the whisky one for a couple of years (so I can drink it too) and last year tried to branch out with the children (to the pp my daughter loved the smiggle one!). - although they prefer the lindt one it seems. I much prefer the run up to Christmas to Christmas itself. I love December. And I can afford it (it just comes from the overall christmas budget which means fewer presents on the day).

I was going to buy my cheese loving daughter a cheese one but £40 was a bit much for me

ShowYourselfLucifer · 25/10/2019 15:51

I've been given one and have gotten myself 2.

It's incredibly indulgent but if you can't be indulgent at Christmas when can you be?

SilverySurfer · 25/10/2019 16:13

If that's too cheap, Tiffany are doing one for $112,000 stuffed with diamonds.

DoctorMarten · 25/10/2019 16:23

I got myself one. I looked at loads and bought one with stuff in it that I will use (or will give away). It was a treat to myself and I paid for it, so I’m not feeling guilty!

Ponoka7 · 25/10/2019 16:24

"What’s wrong with being self indulgent? Life’s for living, if someone wants to indulge and buy one why the hell not"

^that.

My family don't do adult gifts. I'm single, so why shouldn't i spend my money on myself?

AdaColeman · 25/10/2019 16:32

Self indulgence?
Yes, I'm all for that! Cake Wine

Think of it as bringing a little joy into your life.

icebearforpresident · 25/10/2019 17:37

my mum buys the boots No 7 one every year and loves it, it contains a lot of the products she buys anyway in decent sizes or sizes that work for travelling. And she gives me the products she doesn’t use.

I admit, I’m a bit stingy and the thought of spending more than a couple of quid on an advent calendar makes me a bit 😯 but like the sound of the gin one, need to find someone with a Costco card!

CakeNinja · 25/10/2019 17:58

Me! Spent £195 on the space nk one. Totally self indulgent and I am glad to indulge myself - I’m totally worth it Wink

OverByYer · 26/10/2019 11:40

Funnily enough I just ordered myself a £20 candle without thinking about it so I suppose there's no difference between that and treating oneself to an expensive advent calendar.
We are all worth it Grin

Are you meant to buy them as gifts for other people? Ive seen a few lovely ones but don't usually exchange gifts as early as start of December.

Just a bit confused if they are in place of a Christmas present or an addition.

Wizzbangpop · 26/10/2019 14:56

Op do you mean adult as in a sex toy advent calendar from love honey. Or a more beauty one.

I brought the m&s beauty one a few years ago as it was £10 reduced from £60 when you spent £25 in store or something. And I'm really god I got it but I wouldn't buy one every year
