On holiday in France and this huge thing is on the terrace. About 2 inches long.
Any idea what type of spider it is?

It's a Giant House Spider.

Scary.

House spider. I found one on our sofa 2 days ago, it filled the bottom of the pint glass I used to catch it, must have been 3" front to back.

Will it crawl inside the house and kill us in our sleep? Shock

@itsnotcycling Yes. Best to flee now.

I accidentally brought a mahoosive spider home from holiday in my suitcase once. I opened the case in my bedroom to unpack and saw it. Immediately abandoned room and wouldn’t sleep there for a week.

Keep your bags closed at all times, OP.

No, it won't hurt you. Catch it in a glass and move it away from the house. It is warm enough in France for it to be fine outside.

NonUrinatInVentum · 23/10/2019 10:39

It's not dangerous. It's a false wolf spider, very common in my part of Switzerland/France

Phew! I don't mind small spiders but this one is way bigger than the size I'm comfortable with!
