Anyone else up? I'm frightened to go back to sleep, please talk

I need to talk to someone.
Something really horrible just happened, I think I'm losing my mind.

Ok here's the set up, we're sleeping at dear Gran's house (my son's Gran, DH"s mum) who sadly passed, we're here bc there's a service tomorrow. I'm sleeping in the bed in his sister's old bedroom, DS is on the floor in his little blow up bed, DH is upstairs sleeping hopefully soundly in his old bedroom (usual set up, they're all small single beds so we've always done this when we've stayed and it's always been fine and dandy).

I've had a restless night because, stressed, there's a LOT going on, family fallouts etc, house moves etc...
A moment ago I'd gotten back to sleep again, I heard my son's little footsteps walking around the bed. I thought "oh no he's up and wants his cuddle" (it's not unheard of for him to get up in the night to be cuddled back to sleep, he's 4)
So I heard the footsteps come round, turned my attention to him at the side of the bed (I was awake but eyes closed) but this really really hotrid, deep, hoarse voice said angrily
"(Look at?) YOU. JUST LYING THERE" I cried out "huh?what?" then was fully awake, (I thought it had said something about a lion at first, the voice was like it had some trouble with English, like it wasn't it's first language).

I'm so shaken up. The voice was like nothing I've ever heard before, deep and had a sort of robotic/electric element to it. I'm literally terrified to shut my eyes .

I have automatically just grabbed my phone for some light, saw it was 5:45, bit early for me tbh but thought I'd just look for some funny threads in "chat" to distract my mind, but I can't take my mind off it at all!

I'm not religious at all (maybe I bloody well should be) honestly, I seriously believe I have just encountered a demon. I feel as though it "tricked me" to get my attention by sounding like my son, then scared the living crap out of me on purpose.

Nothing like this has ever happened to me, I'm losing my mind. I can't go upstairs to cuddle DH because he needs his sleep for tomorrow and he'll think I'm mad.

I don't know what I'm asking from this thread really. Help??

You’re definitely not mad, unless the rest of us are too Grin Enjoy a nice cup of tea FlowersBrew

Fishcakey · 22/10/2019 07:10

@CodenameVillanelle I get the spider thing a lot and they are enormous!

CodenameVillanelle · 22/10/2019 07:26

Yep!
I did the friendly spider program and I'm no longer phobic but the dreams are awful. They said we wouldn't get spider dreams anymore Sad but they lied!

My DH used to have "hypnogogic hallucinations" which are terrifying to experience AND witness.

He'd see lights and machines which weren't there. Sometimes he was convinced something was chasing him. he knocked himself out fleeing once.

I have seen him in the throes of this and it's horrendous. Maybe you experienced similar? There's such a thing as waking dreams...you're awake but you're not.

Avoid coffee. That's what helped DH. And alcohol. Once he knocked those on the head, it all stopped.

Supersimkin2 · 22/10/2019 07:42

OP, it's a HH - I had one so vigorous once I shot out of bed and banged my ingowing toenail - I know which was worse Grin

The voices in HH are always really loud and bossy, it's your brain getting rid of rubbish when you're knackered :)

You are completely sane and perfectly normal. Have a peaceful day and an early night Flowers

PS Arnie the coat check guy Grin

DisappointingBanana · 22/10/2019 07:45

My DD also used to get hypnagogic hallucinations and they were VERY similar to what happened to you, OP.

She had an angry, male voice sneering at her for being in bed or for how she had her duvet arranged. She had some MH problems at the time.

I’m not saying you have HM problems but you’ve had a stressful time recently and were having trouble settling in bed.

Must have been terrifying though, poor you.

Dollymixture22 · 22/10/2019 07:47

I have had some very frightening vivid dreams. I promise this was a dream.

I have even heard the doorbell and knocking at the door, got up to answer then realised it wasn’t real.

Yestermo · 22/10/2019 07:54

Oh I've had a few of these. The voices are always a bit twatty. I told the last one to fuck off much to DHs confusion 😂

Qcng · 22/10/2019 08:04

The voices in HH are always really loud
I'm learning so much! Because it was, I didn't think dream voices could be that loud.

Also, I realise I was mixing up "today" with "tomorrow". I'm one of those people who thinks it's not "tomorrow" until the sun comes up Smile
Service is today. It must be upsetting me more than I thought.

When I was in my teens , my dog learned to sneak upstairs and get on my bed and he would growl when I tried to shift him . My dad altered the door so he could no longer do it , one night I heard the door go and felt the dog get on the bed and lay on my legs . I tried to shift him and he growled , and kept growling . I was really uncomfortable and his growling scared me so I kept calling for my mum . When she came in there was no dog he was still downstairs but it was so real.

Demons exist. This may have been a hallucination or whatever but definitely Demons exists just like angels, God and Satan. It's fine to not believe as each to their own but I think acknowledging the POSSIBILITY is healthy.

Blobby10 · 22/10/2019 08:19

@Qcng you are not alone! I'm house sitting for my parents - not my childhood home - whilst between houses and have had four nights with these sorts of dreams over the past week! like you, currently sleeping in a single bed, house empty except for me but some of these dreams and voices have been SO realistic! I was up last night - moved to a different bedroom with a double bed (only 3 bedrooms ) but got woken at 3am by a knocking on the wall near my head. Really loud! House is in the middle of nowhere so I was freaking out that someone was trying to get into the house even though burglar alarm set. My heart was pumping really loudly - walked round and looked out of all the windows - no burglars. Got back into bed and at 0320 the same thing happened, knocking as if someone is putting a picture up. So weird. Eventually went back to sleep but feel weird today Smile

deplorabelle · 22/10/2019 09:28

My DH woke me up twice last night telling me work were texting him. At about 2 he sat bolt upright and announced "it's all gone to shit". He has no memory of it today.

Years ago he dragged me out if the bedroom because he thought there were wild animals in it.

SoyDora · 22/10/2019 09:41

Demons exist. This may have been a hallucination or whatever but definitely Demons exists just like angels, God and Satan

How can you categorically state that as fact? Do you have evidence that no one else does?

Damntheman · 22/10/2019 09:51

I have hypnagogic hallucinations and sometimes they're terrifying, I feel for you OP! I am always well aware that I'm in my bed and I feel awake and BOOM there it is. I usually have to turn on the light to chase it away properly and then I realise I wasn't fully awake. It's very strange. I tend to see oversized insects and spiders. My sister gets them with a male figure at the foot of her bed - so I think I win that one.. Grim. Stress can absolutely bring mine on, it's almost certainly what happened to you. I hope you're feeling better in the light of day!

Pierrettelasanguinaire · 22/10/2019 11:14

If it was a demon, it wasn't a particularly competent one Grin

Blobby10 · 22/10/2019 15:11

@Damntheman I had some giant insects last week - and a toy plane that was buzzing at me. However the room that I was in has a problem with cluster flies in the windows so the buzzing could have been real life Grin. But those dreams/hallucination/whatever are terrifying when they happen. The scariest for me by far was a few years ago and I 'woke' to see a female corpse hovering above me (her face about 8 inches from mine as if she was lying face down on the bed). It was SO real and took ages to scare away. I do recall shouting 'get away from me'
