The Tricky World of Year 4 Friendships

DD9 seems to be going through a difficult patch with friendships at school. She was friends with a girl who she got on brilliantly with, lots of playdates etc but the friend moved onto someone else. This is now happening again with another friend and she is coming home regularly upset. I have instigated playdates with other girls in the class but it never translates into them spending time together at school. I encourage her to be chatty with everyone and to have a group of friends. The year group is cliquey - most of the girls are paired off or in smaller groups and it seems impossible to break into one of these groups.
Any advice?

Keep at it. And send her to a club out of school. Guides is good or Brownies. A drama group might also help.

Talk to her teacher to ensure there's no low level bullying by exclusion happening.
