Saint’s name for confirmation

DD8 is starting the process for to be confirmed into the Catholic Church. We are doing some research about what name she should pick.

So far we have read about Saint Teresa of Calcutta, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux and Saint Bernadette of Lourdes.

Any other suggestions? Ideally I’m looking for some stories to share that don’t end in some sort of horrific execution at an early age. The story also has to be relatable, for example she really likes Saint Thérèse because she did lots of little acts of kindness and that made sense to her.

Mary is out because that’s her middle name and she wants something different.

Saint Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, would be a good choice as there is lots to discover about her life, and how her Christian belief influenced Constantine so that he encouraged the spread of Christianity throughout the Roman Empire.

PollyShelby, mine is Priscilla too! A 1st century Roman virgin martyr, if I recall correctly. It was a fashion in my year to choose a male saint's name too, rather than the feminised version.

The Bishop and the Nuns must have raised a few eyebrows, although nobody officially tried to put us off!Grin

With so much concern about the environment, she might like to look at Kateri Tekakwitha.

I took Jane as my confirmation name. She apparently asked Our Lady to watch over her. My mum always prays to Our Lady so it felt like it was a tribute to her.

Slightaggrandising · 21/10/2019 20:19

Mine is Dwnwyn because... Wales.

Does anyone remember the Byker Grove episode? I'm sure one went for Madonna and the priest was not impressed Grin

I chose Frances, after St. Francis of Assisi, an animal lover. My sister chose Joan, after St. Joan of Arc (though she was burned at the stake...).

UpsyIggleDaisyPiggle · 21/10/2019 21:08

St Hedwig

Basketofkittens · 21/10/2019 21:38

Saint Ursula. I just looked at her wiki page and today is her feast day! Spooky!

francienolan · 21/10/2019 21:58

Angela for St Angela Merici, who founded an order of nuns and schools
Margaret for the saint who was the queen of Scotland
Helen/Helena who discovered the true cross, patron saint of archaeology (mine is Helen!)
Cecilia, the patron saint of music

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 21/10/2019 22:02

BigBairyHollocks · 21/10/2019 22:06

St Collette is mine. Was personal to me as someone I love dearly has the name, but also St Collette was founder of the Poor Clare’s,which continues to do good work for the poor and insolsted.

BigBairyHollocks · 21/10/2019 22:06

BillyAndTheSillies · 21/10/2019 22:45

I chose Jude because at 15, when I did my Confirmation I was a bit of a tear away.

BikeRunSki · 21/10/2019 22:59

I chose Francis, because -at the time - I wanted to be a vet.

TarquinGyrfalcon · 21/10/2019 23:06

Saint Non (St David’s mother as that would link with her birthday)

flatpack1 · 21/10/2019 23:08

Mine is Philomena saint of infants, babies and youth. No idea why. My mum chose it.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 21/10/2019 23:18

I have a Margaret of Scotland and a Joan of Arc

SwedishEdith · 21/10/2019 23:23

We just picked names we liked or had comedy value as long as there was also a saint with the same name. There will be as there's 1,000s of them. I picked the name of a famous person I wanted to be admired.

NoodieRoodie · 21/10/2019 23:26

I chose Perpetua, she was eaten by lions in the arena if I remember correctly, as I was probably a bit bloodthirsty at that age. My mum converted when I was in my 20's and chose Bernadette (after the Nolan)!

kathryn19801 · 21/10/2019 23:33

I chose Rita as my gran gave me a little book about St Rita and I liked the story.

barkingfly · 22/10/2019 07:07

I am a big fan of Teresa of Avila.

Rainbowx2 · 22/10/2019 07:26
