Please stop talking about the Great South Run now

DP ran the great south run today and got a PB. I'm pleased for him but for the love of all things holy shut up about it now. It's all over his FB and every single sentence he's uttered since he got back has been about running. I'm not a runner so maybe this is clouding my judgement. I can't piss on his chips by telling him to shut it so please may I vent on here?

Vent on here but let him have his glory. I’m not a runner (as in entering things) but I do run. Don’t really tell anyone about it though!
It’s only been a few hours and it’s hard work running all that way Grin

iklboo · 20/10/2019 16:37

Just do 'Interested Face #287' Grin

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 20/10/2019 16:42

Poor bloke,he's high as a kite from it,can't you be pleased for him? If he's still going on about it in a couple of weeks I'd mentally switch off but he must be so proud of himself.

RunWidow · 20/10/2019 16:47

Of course I'm pleased for him, which part of not wanting to piss on my chips did you not read? But let me add that for the last few weeks pretty much everything has been GSR related too.

And I'm grumpy about running generally because my very brief foray into the world of running ended in a fractured foot which still isn't healed 5 months later. So it's a bit of a sore subject at the best of times.

Hesafriendfromwork · 20/10/2019 16:49

He did it today? Just let him have the day.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 20/10/2019 16:53

Yes I did read and responded accordingly.

ilovetofu · 20/10/2019 16:56

Oh OP I feel you.

People who run & bang on & on about it are sooooo annoying! You run. We know. We don't need to discuss it anymore 🤷‍♀️

They are as bad as bloody vegans!!

ilovetofu · 20/10/2019 16:57

Having said that - your DH did do it TODAY - so maybe let him have a day to feel proud?

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 20/10/2019 16:58

Im a runner and get it that I sometimes bore people.

FUCK IT, I don’t care!
Let him have his moment.

RunWidow · 20/10/2019 16:58

@ilovetofu not all vegans go on about it! Quiet vegan here!

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 20/10/2019 16:58

Bloody hell - you must have only posted this a few hours after he finished it. He wasn't allowed much time to enjoy his achievement before you started whinging, was he?

NoHummus · 20/10/2019 16:59

OP, count yourself lucky you only get this today. His poor work mates will hear about it all week! Wink

RunWidow · 20/10/2019 17:04

There appears to be a fair few people on this thread who can't read.

I said in my OP I'm pleased for him and I don't want to tell him to shut up. I'm letting him have his day and bask in his glory.

But I don't need to hear a minute by minute account of his run, of the times of all the other runners that he knows who did it, or be told a million times that I'll be running it next year.

I should also add in that I've been looking after 3 children all day including his daughter and it's been loud and relentless.

OP posts:
ilovetofu · 20/10/2019 17:08

You are certainly in the minority then OP! 🤣

ilovetofu · 20/10/2019 17:09

(Last comment was referring to "quiet" vegans)

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 20/10/2019 17:15

There appears to be a fair few people on this thread who can't read No, they're just disagreeing with you Wink

lazylinguist · 20/10/2019 17:19

We can read. You want him to shut up about it. It's right there in your OP. It's good that you haven't actually told him to shut up about it, but getting so irritated that you had to post a thread about it within couple of hours of him finishing it doesn't exactly sound like you're very tolerant. If he's still going on about it tomorrow night you might have a point!

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 20/10/2019 17:22

If I'd managed to run even a mile you wouldn't shut me up for WEEKS Grin

RunWidow · 20/10/2019 17:22

IF I'd posted on here that I'd blown up at him and yelled never to mention running again I could understand people saying I'm out of order. But as it happens I've politely smiled (#3008 patent pending) and all his comments and let him think he's the most incredible athlete in the world and puts Sir Mo to shame (ok, I exaggerated a bit there but you get the picture). He IS an incredible athlete, but I don't need to keep hearing the same anecdote/scientific fact over and over.

OP posts:
RunWidow · 20/10/2019 17:26

@lazylinguist so if your DP/DH or whoever had talked at you for 3 hours about one event that you had no part or interest in you wouldn't even be the tiniest bit irritated? I find that hard to believe.

terriblyangryattimes · 20/10/2019 17:34

Are you me? My husband is also v proud of himself and wants to watch the footage he recorded on the TiVo later on 🤷‍♀️

Miljah · 20/10/2019 18:08

😂 I'd feel your pain, too, OP.

RunWidow · 20/10/2019 22:24

DS1 had a concert this evening but we are now watching the recorded footage. Have already spotted DP.
