What silly ways have you managed to frighten yourself?

Earlier this evening I decided to have a bath.
I started the bath running and go into the bedroom to get undressed. The bathroom is in the next room to the bedroom but the angle of the bedroom door means you can’t see the the bathroom from the bedroom.
As I was getting undressed I could hear splashing in the bath. Not just the water running but splashing like someone was swooshing the water in the bath.
I was about to go into the bathroom to investigate when the landing lights flickered.
I shouted for DH to come upstairs and check the bathroom for me and then under the beds.

When have you frightened yourself? (To make me feel better)

To this day if I am at my parents house and I'm the last one downstairs to turn off the lights I left it upstairs as quickly as I possibly can for fear of something chasing me up.

I used to be particuarly good at worrying there was someone in the house, especially when we lived somewhere where we didnt use half the rooms (long story) and would methodically go from room to room with an object for hitting intruders with, shutting the doors behind me.

Leg it upstairs even.

Oh yes, rooms you don’t use are proper scary.

We have motion controlled lights on the landing, and they and all the other lights in the house are voice controlled so you can get into bed without having to turn the lights off. Sometimes when I’m in bed I’ll turn the living room lights on from my phone just to scare off some undetermined thing.

I forgot that the landing lights turn themselves off and on when I got myself worked up.

I scared myself in a house we lived in years ago. We had three bedrooms but the one we used meant that we had to walk past the other two to get to it. Our bathroom was downstairs so during the day I would rarely go upstairs.
One evening I went up to get something from the bedroom but as I went to go past the room we didn’t really use I heard a repetitive clicking.
Once I plucked up the courage to go in I realised it was the cd drive on the computer that had got itself stuck.

When I get into my car and it’s dark outside, I convince myself that there’s someone hiding in the back. I’m too scared to turn around and check and too scared to drive off ! I have to get out and shine my phone torch into the car (from as big a distance as possible) to make sure the car is empty.

Oh yes. I know how you feel. I don’t like to look in the rear view mirror to the back seat.

Many years ago I was (stupidly) walking home alone in the middle of the night along a road parallel to a wooded area. It was so quiet and as I was walking I could hear a sound that sounded like someone sawing something up. I may not have been entirely sober so obviously convinced myself someone was sawing up a body in the woods. As I sped up the sound got louder and faster and I got more and more scared.

Til I realised it was the sound my anorak sleeves were making as my arms brushed against my body. Blush

I thought the mirror on the middle headrest in the back of my car that I use to see DS in his car seat was a person.

I also regularly convince myself that bits of fluff are spiders.

After watching Wolf Creek I was convinced a man in a stupid hat was outside my house.

I could go on...

Or it’s the sound being carried around your hood or hat. I’ve had that before.
