Did anyone's hair completely change due to pregnancy?

I'm not just talking about getting thicker/glossier during pregnancy and then thinning out afterwards, but completely changing colour and texture.

My hair was a very light blond and almost dead straight as a child. It gradually went darker but even into my early/mid thirties I was definitely still a 'honey/caramel blond'. A couple of years before I had DS1 I started noticing that I had an odd dark brown and very wavy/curly hair.

During the pregnancy with DS1 and the 3 years since my hair went several shades darker and now could only be described as 'fair' rather than blond. The number of dark curly hairs also increased, but you would still only notice them if I pointed them out.

I'm now about 3.5 months pregnant with DS2 and the number of dark curly hairs has increased dramatically, so that I have a pretty noticeable halo of dark curly hair over my straight light ones. The fair hairs are also falling out at an alarming rate- very similar to the rate of post pregnancy loss I had with DS1.

It is partly genetic as my dad also went from being blond to having dark wavy hair. His changed in his late 20s/early 30s, but obviously wasn't influenced by hormones as mine seems to be.

I'm interested to hear if anyone's hair changed so dramatically, and if so, how long the process took to complete?

Yes! Mine was very curly until I was pregnant with dd2, it's only got a slight wave now and is much thinner than before (which is a blessing tbh, I miss my curls though)

Mine just generally went flatter throughout, fell out dramatically postnatally (hello bald spot!) and then grew back thinner, but each hair is thinner iyswim.

my hair was always poker straight and during pregnancy became corse and curly, it's literally massive, like a perm from the 80s

Mine lost its curl too

Jealous of those that have gained curliness through pregnancy.

How long did yours take to change completely Cherylslaw?

I think gaining curl is likely to be more noticeable than losing it- unless it's a dramatic change from tight curls to poker straight.

I had naturally light blonde hair before I was pregnant. It was slightly darker in the bottom layers but didnt need dying etc. After DD my hair grew out a dark grey/brown so now I have to dye it (sigh).

My colour didn't change but after the birth of my first I lost most of my curls and thickness. It's gradually come back over the years though and is now as curly as it ever was.

@Thistledew
it started to change when I was about 6 month pregnant, and has never changed over 5 years later, I thought it would when I was pregnant with my second but possibly got worse I need to use so much conditioner as some mornings I wake up and it's almost in dreadlocks!!!

No colour change, but lots fell out after ds2 and it's never fully recovered.
