I've got my driving test in 2 hours. Any last minute advice?

I've been reading through the show me, tell me questions but I've got to the point I can't take it in anymore.

I need to remember to take my time, focus and mirrors, mirrors, mirrors.

Any words of advice?

Don't panic if you stall. I stalled during my test (over 30 years ago 👵🏻) because I was distracted by a dog fight going on on the corner I was about to reverse around . As long as you do all the right things - hand break, gears etc and stay calm you'll be fine.

This is probably terribly out of date advice - can you stall an automatic?

If you make a mistake acknowledge it and repeat the manoeuvre/answer correctly.

It is an automatic that I'm learning in and you can't stall. So one less thing to worry about!

I know I can do this, it's just the pressure of the situation that could make me do something silly.

Relax! You can do this .... you’re instructor wouldn’t have put you in for your test if you couldn’t do it. You can as long as you relax. Good luck !

No advice other than staying calm. If you're not happy with your parking you can apparently correct it but if you say i'm happy with that and it's wrong then that's a major. That's what DD tells me anyway.

She has her driving test this afternoon but we spent yesterday evening in A&E. Didn't get home until 1.30am so i'm not sure what her chances of passing are now!

My Gran failed her first driving test but passed the second time after spending the night with my Dad in A&E where he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and very ill. She said she just didn't have time to worry about the test or work herself up about it.

Remember to create the environment you want in the car, you’re not obliged to talk to the instructor, I liked Radio 4 on very quietly as found it helped me concentrate.

I also found a chocolate bar before the test helpful, gave me a bit of an energy boost.

One of the tips I read on here was to open your window slightly, so you can hear the traffic better.

Don't let any mistakes phase you! If you dwell on one small mistake at the start then you'll make more and more because you're concentrating on the mistake not the driving.

This has been my biggest issue in my lessons. I've been working on it but previously if I did something wrong, I'd focus on that and everything else would go to shit.

I also found a chocolate bar before the test helpful, gave me a bit of an energy boost.

I've used this as an excuse to put a Wispa in my bag!

Treat it as another lesson. You can obviously drive or you wouldn't be taking your test so keep that in mind. Agree with the checking of mirrors. Also dont be afraid to talk to the instructor, it might help you relax. Good luck!

If you approach a roundabout in the wrong lane for the exit your supposed to take do not change lane while on the roundabout. Take the exit for the lane you are in. This won't be marked as a fault but changing lane on the roundabout is an automatic fail. Probably a totally obvious one but it's the one I'm really worried about, I have my test in 2 weeks and I just know that if I approach in the wrong lane I am going to panic and try to change lanes. I failed 4 times through pure nerves, the 5th time I had some rescue remedy and relaxed.

I even managed a joke with the examiner, we saw the police behind us and I said oh there's the fuzz, shall I put my foot down? The rescue remedy worked wonders for me.

Just stay really calm! And don't assume you've failed if you've made a mistake. In my test I broke the speed limit and stopped half way across a pedestrian crossing and still passed. Also, you can never check the mirrors/blind spots too many times! Good luck :)

Drive as though you're trying to put the examiner to sleep. It'll help you avoid any sharp breaking and stopping.

Also, it's a speed limit, not a target!

May have already been said but, even if you think you've done something wrong/failed, carry on the rest of the test as if you haven't. I was sure I failed right at the beginning of mine but tried to forget about it and passed!

I found telling the examiner at why I was doing certain things helped. For example I waited ages to turn right at traffic lights on a main road and explained it was because I couldn't be sure it was safe. I also was do nervous I said that I needed a moment before setting off. I passed and was fully expecting to fail. Good luck op!
