Can minor injuries treat a broken ankle?

Just that really.

Fell down a pot hole last night, was in a lot of pain, tried RICE and it's not done a jot of difference.

Went to bed and just woken up completely unable to walk on it, move my toes or anything the pain is horrendous. The swelling is fairly impressive but not massive.

Can I get this looked at by minor injuries or do I have to go to A&E?

The pain is kind of radiating up my leg?

If minor injuries can’t deal with it they’ll send you to A&E.

Good luck.

Ouch! As above. They should be able to x ray and then refer as needed.

Thanks!

They can xray but if it needs any treatment such as manipulation you need a and e.

Give them a try. My Mum has broken her foot (twice!) and both times been seen at minor injuries, and been able to have x-rays, get a support boot, and be referred to the fracture clinic directly from there. And both times she was in and out in about an hour, whereas if she went to A&E she would probably have been waiting a lot longer.

Hope you feel better soon. That looks sore!

Thanks it's bloody sore!

The website for my local health centre has a list of what they do.

A&E is perfectly appropriate. Most minor injuries can’t cast, if needed.
Why go to minor injuries and then have to move onto A&E taking up two appointments and increasing hassle for yourself.
This isn’t wasting A&E time; it was an accident and is within 24 hours.

A&E.

LenoVintura · 16/10/2019 07:47

I broke my wrist and DH broke his leg. All the MIU could do was xray and send us to the hospital for treatment. Waste of time going to MIU.

CMOTDibbler · 16/10/2019 07:54

It varies - our MIU can do casts, x rays etc. And when I went and they weren't sure (existing metalwork and issues) I didn't go to A&E or even fracture clinic at all but had a next day appointment with a specialist
