Anyone used car buying site to sell car?

Want to sell my 4 year old small car, low mileage/good condition as I've ended up with another car to use for next few months which I prefer. Heard some bad things about WeBuyAnyCar so avoiding them but has anyone used The Car Buying Group or Arnold Clark? Good or bad? TCBG have given lowish offer but will collect. Arnold Clark figure £400 higher but are they just going to haggle down?

They are rip off merchants.
Sell it privately so you get its full market value.

Thanks MarkinTime. Any idea best place to advertise though? Am also worried about private buyer paying up, etc Hmm

Also, are they all equally as bad? TCBG guy did big pitch about how they don't knock money off like WeBuyAnyCar but offer was low anyway. Just wondered if anyone had positive story?

They are all as bad yes.
Try advertising in Auto Trader and FreeAds. EBay is good for selling cars as is your local FB group.
Never let the car go to a buyer until you have the cold hard cash in your hand, even if they pay by cheque, wait until it's cleared and the money is in your account before handing over the car, keys or paperwork.

WBAC give you what they say, if it's in the condition you say. Most people forget or haven't seen the scratch on the bumper, the stain on the chair etc. We sold ours to them, website said £911 and we got £898, so not bad.

They buy them and 3 days later sell them at auction for around £500 more. So your car is worth about £400 more than their website says if you sold it privately.

Depends how much hassle you want.

WBAC told me my old VW would be worth £900. I sold it for £2,000, as per all the other ones on Auto Trader that were the same age, model, mileage and spec.

Auto Trader is really easy.

Thanks all. Have only ever traded cars in before, not sold privately. Just worried about hassle but that's how WBAC, etc get business obviously. Off to look at Autotrader now.

We've used webuyanycar twice and been very happy both times. They always offer more money than car dealerships! I wouldn't write them off so quickly..

Sold mine to Arnold Clark. They didn't haggle at all and the money went in the next day. Really recommend them. I asked about haggling and essentially they said there would have to be a good amount of damage to go the the next rate.

We buy any car pay you less and then rob you blind in fees and bullshit damage.

I was hugely concerned about private buyers paying fraudulently. It isn't worth the hassle. Arnold Clark gave more than I expected to sell privately based on advert and wiggle room for hagglers. Honestly, it's not worth the hassle when you get a fair offer.

Arnold Clark all the way.

I hate these websites... because it's getting harder to find second hand vehicles to buy privately! I drive older cars and hate going to a dealer as they invariably are expert at covering up the issues that I want to be aware of. All I can say is that as a buyer I pay cash and once we've agreed a price it's fixed. I can't be the only honest private buyer.

MIL put a postcard in the local newsagents @ 50p a week to sell her 6 year old car. It sold within a week. She’d paid for 4 weeks but had to ask the shop to take it down because she was getting so many calls asking about the car.
