exercise and piercings that rubs.. What to do?

For those of you with piercings in areas that are covered with clothing what do you do when out exercising? I have recently returned to the gym and I am finding one of the piercings I have had since then really gets sore as I press against different machinery.

What possible solutions are there out there please?

Plasters? The thick dressing ones.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 15/10/2019 13:55

Erm, remove the piercings?

Pipandmum · 15/10/2019 13:56

Take the jewellery out before exercising.

Take them out while you exercise? If it's a nipple piercing could you buy sport bras with removable pads and double up the pads?

yellowitsme · 15/10/2019 13:59

If its a nipple piercing. get those nipple cover things there like silicone rubber type things

AmIThough · 15/10/2019 14:04

If it's your bits I don't think there's much you can do other than remove it or stand up on the exercise bike Grin

BeanBag7 · 15/10/2019 14:06

Take the piercing out or use different machinery which doesnt cause pressure on that area.

Enko · 15/10/2019 14:09

I can't take the piecing out (yet) didnt know there was "rubber type things" @yellowitsme will have a look

(now wondering what will come up if I google rubber type things Smile)

...seriously? You couldn't think of a solution for this problem yourself?

ClaudiaWankleman · 15/10/2019 14:11

You should get some adhesive bandage (£6 at boots for a large roll) and tape over it. It won't actually pull out the piercing when you remove it, but it will stop the piercing moving and catching, and anything rubbing on it.

If you go swimming, you'll need to find a waterproof bandage or plaster.

Enko · 15/10/2019 14:14

@CannonCaboodle thank you for that really well considered opinion. Did you consider I was wanting recommendations for what others had done to find a good solution? As frankly googling doesn't give you any idea for what actually works.

I use the white dressing tape you see in hospitals! You can buy a roll from the chemist in Boots. It’s extra sticky so holds well when you are sweaty and stops the bar rubbing about.

Enko · 15/10/2019 14:40

I tried tape today but I don't find it works well for when I do different arm work out machines. It seems to rub a fair bit. I have wondered about a breast pad but I often find they slide around Hence the question as to what others have done.

Frankly I will admit it had not occurred to me it would be a issue as I have had so little problems with the piercings so far.

Sounds like a nipple piercing? I took mine out in the end it was more hassle than it was worth, although I did like how it looked. I was sick of having to be aware of it and the freedom when I took it out was immense. I used the rolls of adhesive plasters mentioned by pp btw.

Enko · 15/10/2019 16:03

yes its the nipple piercing thats the issue.

@Enko these are the things I'm talking about lol, you can pick them up in primark, new look and the like

yellowitsme · 15/10/2019 17:06

Those ones look like plasters but I've seen them in silicone

MitziK · 15/10/2019 17:31

Doubled up layer of wound dressing pad and a bit of surgical tape. Plus a total support bra so they don't move around at all.

Nipple piercings can be quite grumpy for a while, especially in airconditioned gyms (after all, what do nipples do in the cold? And now there's a piece of titanium getting cold and taking that coldness right inside).

Enko · 15/10/2019 18:29

@MitziK what a great description Grin

@yellowitsme I didn't know they existed for exercise now looking to see what I can find. Until trying the double gauze thing

I have pierced nipples that rub on exercise, I use two cosmetic pads, doubled up and held in place with surgical tape.

yellowitsme · 15/10/2019 19:03

@Enko I'm not sure if they are for exercising... I think they are more for if your wearing a dress and no bra but want to cover your nipples ha! Hopefully you find a solution soon
