Worried I've been overdosing on paracetamol and ibuprofen

I have serious fever, shivers and aches. In past 24hours I've had 3 doses of paracetamol and 3 doses of ibuprofen. I've left 4 hours between each but just googled and it should be 6. Panicking now.

I'd have thought you'd be fine. I always thought 4-6 hours between doses, maximum of four doses in a 24 hour period. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you.

If it’s over the counter paracetamol and ibuprofen and not stronger prescription ones you will be absolutely fine.

You took under the recommenced daily limit so you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Omg you'll be fine.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 15/10/2019 00:01

4 hours is fine.

Just don't go over the maximum within a 24 hour period.

Getoffmylilo · 15/10/2019 00:02

That sounds OK. I always get the 12 hour long lasting Ibuprofen from Boots and then top with paracetamol. I end up taking far less paracetamol that way and a decent night's sleep.

TottieandMarchpane · 15/10/2019 00:03

What @RolytheRhino - you’re within the OTC limits OP.

Thehagonthehill · 15/10/2019 00:09

Daily limit is the one to watch, your are OK so far OP.Hope you feel better soon.

The packets I have here

Nurofen (ibruprofen) 4+ hours, not to exceed 6 in 24 hrs
Panadol (paracetamol) 4-6 hours, no more than 8 in 24hrs

I was taking both, 4 hourly 4x per day for a few weeks. (So exceeding the ibruprofen dose -didn’t realise it was 6 not 8) and have done in the past too as they say it’s better to take it regularly like that & ‘mabage’ The pain, than to wait to be in ‘enough’ pain

You’ll be fine.

Hope you’re feeling better soon 🌷

Why not try Tyrozets? Amazing for numbing sore throats. You'll need to ask at the pharmacy counter as you can't usually buy them off the shelf.

Reluctantbettlynch · 15/10/2019 08:17

Soluble paracetamol are good for sore throat; also boil kettle and add a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon to mug of hot water. Does wonders.

Reluctantbettlynch · 15/10/2019 08:18

Missed a bit out there, teaspoon of cider vinegar ^

YouSirOweMeOneNewHat · 15/10/2019 08:36

Sore throats are, unfortunately, my forte.

Difflam spray (OTC, ask the pharmacist) is fantastic, as are Tyrozets (again, ask the pharmacist) - they completely numb sore throats.

Another OTC medicine, soluble co-codamol. They've got codeine in them, but a quick gargle before you swallow can help.

Hot water with honey and lemon is a nice soothing drink. Honey can help with (minor) infection.

Of course, ice lollies/ice pops. Nice and cold, easy on the throat.

Make sure to keep your throat lubricated, a dry throat is a sore one.

I hope you feel better soon. It's the pits SadBrew

As long as you don’t exceed 4 paracetamol and 6 ibrophen ( check you’re not taking products that may have combination drugs in so you’re not doubling up).

You could gargle with oraldene or corsodyl mouthwash or try difflam spray to num the back of your throat.

MrMeSeeks · 15/10/2019 09:31

Sorry 8* paracetamol ( meant 4 doses)

MrMeSeeks · 15/10/2019 09:32

You could try cocodamol and ibrophen instead of the paracetamol and ibrophen for something a bit stronger?

Namechange3007 · 15/10/2019 09:52

I think co codamol.makes me sick

OP posts:
MamaRaisingBoys · 15/10/2019 09:58

That sounds fine. I’ve been advised in the past by hospital doctor that I could take paracetamol then ibuprofen 3hrs later. As long as it’s only 3 doses of ibuprofen and 4 of paracetamol per 24hrs.

Namechange3007 · 15/10/2019 22:30

Thank you. Went to dr today, its tonsillitis.
