What to wear for volunteering?

Hello all,

I’m starting volunteering this week at a local animal charity (but in the office). I’m not sure what to wear though?! I don’t have any office clothes at present, just jumpers: cardigans/ slim black jeans and converse really. Can i wear that or do I have to go and buy new stuff?!

I wouldn't buy anything new unless you are confident you will use it at other times, e.g. if you are planning on applying for employed roles and will need to go to interviews then it might be a good idea to start picking up a few cheap smarter things as and when you can afford them - charity shops can be a good port of call. But otherwise, as you are a volunteer, smart-ish clean dark jeans, a jumper and converse sounds fine. So long as you are clean and not inappropriately dressed (e.g. as though you were going clubbing!) I can't see them objecting, in fact you may find the full time staff are dressed the same! Very few offices have formal dress codes these days anyway and a lot of charities are very casual, especially ones with an animal/outdoorsy ethos. Good luck!
