How long would you give a new job before you decided you didn't like it!

I've started a new job this week. I know the first few weeks are pretty crap as you try to work out what you're supposed to do and get to know everyone etc but I usually don't feel like this.! It's a totally new sector I'm working in so I guess I'm learning new words / how things work etc but I really don't think I'm going to like it.

I'm trying to keep an open mind but just wondered what's others experiences were. How long would you give before you decided it wasn't going to work.

MrsJBaptiste that's what I want. I want to have a job where I can be happy and stay for years. I hope this is it. I've moved about alot in jobs and just want to settle.

I would give it 3-6 months. Then if I really hated it I would start looking for a new job. I would not hand in notice until I had secured a new job though.

My one that I stuck to for a year, I was supposed to give 3 months notice, walked out at lunch one day and never returned!
