So annoyed.
Nice weekend in holiday cottage arrived last night without DH and Ddog, relaxing day planned until they gethere this evening.Except bloody fire alarm has started doing loud beep every 30 seconds or so. How do I stop it ? So annoyed as now wide awake which was definitely not the plan. Owners live next door but I've not met them yet.

Is it defintiely the fire alarm and not a carbon monoxide alarm?

Can you replace the batteries? From the tv remote maybe?

rookiemere · 11/10/2019 05:44

Not sure which one it is thanks. Seems like it may have stopped now.

The battery will be low, just tell the owners tomorrow.

If it's possibly the carbon monoxide alarm - and there is a gas boiler, fire or something else which has been on during the evening then despite the cold you need to open windows,,, especially where you are sleeping. Then get all batteries changed in the morning. (Don't take any risks with CO2)

Probably a low battery in a smoke alarm. Find it and take the batteries out.

lassofthenorth · 11/10/2019 06:01

I agree its probably the battery.

This happened to me at Easter in a holiday cottage. Not just the smoke alarm but the remote thermostat needed new batteries too. So not just an annoying noise but freezing as well!!

I wasn't thrilled to have to pay £10 for four AA batteries in the only local shop that was open on Easter Sunday - I actually wrote myself a note to remind me to take the batteries home with me!

rookiemere · 11/10/2019 06:33

It's started again Confused. Too high for me to try to reach and I don't want to damage it. Have emailed owner. I'd already opened windows as quite warm inside.
So much for relaxing break.

How bloody annoying for you! One of our smoke alarms was beeping last night, we had to get our tall, kind NDN to come and take the battery out as we can't reach it!

rookiemere · 11/10/2019 06:39

If Dh was here he'd fix it - is coming tomorrow- but then ddog would have been woken up too.
I know it's childish and not really the owners fault, but I'm so tired and disappointed that what's meant to be a relaxing break is anything but at the minute.

That's so crap and unlucky. I hope it gets fixed by the owners today. What a bad start to your break.

rookiemere · 11/10/2019 06:47

Thank you cherry plum. I know it's a first world problem but I am disappointed. I didn't meet owners last night, but all reviews say they are lovely so here's hoping they get it fixed .

I hope the Owners fix it very soon Op.

It stopped about 7 - ironically already fully awake so too late - and they have now changed the batteries. Didn't seem overly apologetic about my broken sleep but hey ho I've just had a relax in the hot tub, so I expect I'll survive Wink.
