God yeah, you forget she was only 47 when she died - that's no age at all.

Wasn't she force-fed a diet or cigarettes, chicken soup and black coffee to keep her thin?

She was treated appallingly by her mother and the studio. I haven't seen the film yet, going next week.

Biancadelrioisback the studio controlled how much food she was allowed and put her on amphetamines so she could work 18hr days and also stay slim then sleeping pills so she would rest at the end if it. Uppers at breakfast, downers at bedtime. They also made her have abortion at 19 even though she was married as a pregnancy didn't fit with her child star/girl next door image.

Movie was very harrowing. Really really sad.

She believed she was terribly unattractive as well, Louis B Meyer used to cruelly call her “my little hunchback” and she constantly unfavourably compared herself to other female stars. She was lovely looking, and most of the other women she compared herself to are almost forgotten today because they didn’t have her talent.
