New bras in pregnancy - what and when?

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and am currently spilling out of my (already generous!) bras. The waistband is also now uncomfortably tight and has to be undone when sitting down for long periods Blush

As this is my first pregnancy, I'm not sure what kind of bras I need to buy now. Do I just go and get re-measured but buy normal bras (these are expensive tho as already have to go to Bravissimo) and then also buy nursing/maternity bras when the baby comes? Or do I buy nursing/maternity bras now and wear them till baby comes and after? What kind of bras are good when you don't know how much bigger your boobs will grow? Don't want to spend too much money if I can help it, but would like to be comfy!

I was the same and had no idea with my first, I’ve only got small boobs but went from nothing to reasonsbly big. I found sports bras were the most comfy for me during pregnancy and as much as possible wearing no bra

Thanks! I like the idea of sports bras but find that non underwired mean the straps pull heavy on my shoulders. Might repost in pregnancy and see if anyone else has any advice!

I am also blessed generously and when I've been pregnant I stopped wearing underwire bras and bought old granny bras from M and s initially. When I was about 6 months along I bought maternity bras but I didn't buy proper breastfeeding bra until 39 after my milk came in. My boobs changed size so many times as the cup size and band size went up and down . It's hard because you can't just buy cheap bras because they don't offer the support. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I hate non wired bras so just continued wearing wired bras throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding (twice). What's important is that they fit well.

I carried on wearing underwired Bea's throughout too. It probably depends on you anatomy though, I have a RIB cage like a badger and quite localised breasts, so no chance of breast tissue getting damaged.

I got a bra at 13 weeks, which made it through the rest of the pregnancy (he engaged at 37 weeks and my rib cage got smaller again). I got a non underwired one from marks and sparks, you might struggle if you're very well endowed.

Then I got a nursing one when he was born. I got a molke one, the sizes are more flexible so will be able to adapt to your changing boobs.

Thanks everyone - thats really helpful. I think I'll have to take the plunge and splurge on some new underwired bras (no cheapo supermarket bras large enough, unfortunately!), and perhaps more comfy wire-free ones post-birth.
