Boys football boots - are any a wider fit than others?

DS needs football boots for lunchtime on Friday. I can’t take him to a shop before then, so I will have to buy them without him trying them on. He is a size 3, but has quite wide feet. Any recommendations please? I know nothing about football boots, but apparently it is normal football boots that he needs and not AstroTurf boots (I had no idea that they would be separate things?!).

Add a size as football socks and really thick

BBCK · 09/10/2019 17:21

Adidas and Puma are wider than Nike

GiantKitten · 09/10/2019 17:22

DS1 (grown up) has hobbit feet & always reckoned Adidas were wider than Nike

Can’t answer for any other makes though, sorry

GiantKitten · 09/10/2019 17:25

Astroturf boots have flat but textured soles, btw

Football boots have some form of long studs (for gripping in mud/wet grass) - some are round, some are “blades”

WellTidy · 09/10/2019 17:45

Thanks all. I will buy Adidas, in a size 4 with studs. You’ve been very helpful!

DS has wide feet and we have always been ok with Nike Hypervenom boots.

BoswellsBollocks · 09/10/2019 18:27

Sock boots are popular at the moment but are a nightmare to get on if you’ve got wide feet. DS has to have a classic style that opens up well for his giant fat feet.

Ds2 has wide feet and high instep - make sure you get a traditional boot with just laces all the way down - see picture. Don’t even attempt the ones with silicone / rubber bits they never get on!

DS has wide, high feet. We found Adidas ones which fitted, but the first pair I had to send back as they had a built in, elasticated tongue and he couldn't get his feet in. Re-ordered a pair with a moveable tongue and laces which were fine.

Ilovetolurk · 09/10/2019 20:26

Sorry to piss on your chips OP but the adidas ones I just bought ds are pinching across compared to his previous also adidas. Why not try on you and see what feel like a wide fit to you

WellTidy · 09/10/2019 20:52

I am really appreciating all this advice. I am a size 3 too, so will try them on (first time for everything) with my thickest socks and take a view. Easy to put on is a must so I will keep that in mind about the moveable tongue and all laces.

8 yo DD has very wide feet (G/H) and can only have Puma boots. Adidas and Nike are both too narrow. We haven’t had to size up though - normal size has been fine.

Takeitonthechin · 09/10/2019 20:58

Was in sports direct and one of the sales guys said Nike is the broadest fit

BlueWonder · 09/10/2019 21:20

My DC have wide feet and we always buy Sondico which are a budget brand they sell in Sports Direct and I think on Amazon. The most basic is called Strike, about £20.... we went one up and got Blaze which were £25. DC find them wider and more padding inside than Nike and Addidas. Tend to last about a season before they wear out but by then they get so grotty you'll want a new pair anyway. Whatever brand you get, don't go for traditional studs, ask for the FG (firm ground) version. FG studs will be plastic or slightly blade shaped but suitable for 3G artificial pitche as well as grass. The longer soft ground or metal studs aren't allowed on 3G and you'll end up having to buy another pair if they start playing matches at various grounds. Good luck!

My lad has wide feet. We find leather addidas (old fashioned) boots work better than brightly coloured plastic style sock boots. Sadly they can be more expensive.

Shodan · 09/10/2019 22:39

DS2 has very wide fit (G/H) and so far I've found that only Pumas will fit him.

sparkli · 10/10/2019 00:16

My DS has wide feet and can only wear Nike. DDs, who have narrow feet, can inlet wear Adidas.

WellTidy · 10/10/2019 18:42

Your help was valuable, thank you. I have bought him a pair of leather Nike firm ground plastic stud ones in a size 4. The chap in sports direct said that the pit that I bought were recommended for wide feet. DS loves them, says they are really comfortable.

£46.99.

Christ.
