Am doing low cal, low carb diet and in general feel pretty great (and have lost 12lbs in just under a month) but haven't been able to poo since Saturday morning and just feel so heavy and sluggish and rotten 😟.

In a fit of pique this morning I've just taken 2 x 20ml caps of lactulose. I haven't taken it since after birth of last DC and remember it working pretty quickly (MUCH quicker than the 48 hrs it says it takes online) but now panicking that I'm going to get caught short on the school run 😳.

Anyone know from experience how quickly it works?

It barely works at all for me- I’m pregnant and have GD and was taking 30ml morning and evening with no effect whatsoever, my obstetrician ended up prescribing senna to help get things going!

Oh that doesn't fill me with hope Em 😩

Was half thinking of stopping at the pharmacy for something stronger (senna or similar) but not sure if doubling up is wise or not 🤔.

Lactulose is very gentle, it usually takes a few days to work. Very commonly used in pregnancy, for babies and the elderly.

Right, pharmacy it is then I reckon.

Thanks both.

You need to drink extra water for lactulose to work - it works by pulling water into the bowel to soften the poo to make it easier to pass. Try to drink a lot of extra water & wait.....

Update: It worked 😲.

Feel a hell of a lot better and am looking forward to getting on the scales tomorrow morning already 😂
