I took two tickets to be checked today. I assumed they were old tickets as my DH leaves them in the same place. The shop assistant said neither was a winner. My DH has just said one ticket was for tonight.

Would the machine have told the assistant they were for a draw in the future?

Thanks

The barcode would just read against existing games. If it's not a winner then it won't come up on the screen. I don't think there's any way for the terminal to tell that game hasn't been played yet.

Thanks. I don't know if it's worth going back to the shop tomorrow. I might be a millionaire Grin.

if it was a winning multi-week ticket, it would print out a new ticket for the remaining draws. It should have had a message on the terminal to say all games hadn’t been played yet. Was the ticket disposed of or returned?

KnifeAngel · 08/10/2019 22:53

It was for tonight's draw only. The other ticket was for last week. The assistant kept the tickets and said she would throw them away.

They should always return losing tickets.
call the lottery tomorrow.
Tell them time date and place, they have got systems to check.
Can you remember where you bought the ticket?
Each retailer had an individual number to log in to their terminals and are identifiable.

KnifeAngel · 08/10/2019 22:58

Thank you. I will call them.

Seconding that tickets should be returned. When I used to hand them back to people they would ask me to bin them, and I would tear them in half in front of them and bin them there and then.

Machine should also notify if entry is for future game. The barcode is unique and related to the date of the game. Otherwise it would scan numbers against all games ever played and say loads were a winner when they were not. Machine would have had nothing to check it against and said as much.

It was a big supermarket so I will contact them and Camelot tomorrow. I am so mad I didn't check the date. I hate the tickets lying around so always take them to be checked. He never said he bought an extra one because it was a big draw.

Is this for the euromillions? You know someone I'm the UK has won the £170 million jackpot yeah?

KnifeAngel · 08/10/2019 23:20

I know. My DH was looking for his ticket. He isn't best pleased with me.

ooh, it could be you....

(But don't panic because statistically it's unlikely to be you)

KnifeAngel · 08/10/2019 23:25

Even a fiver would be nice.

You should do it online, then you would never have check your tickets again . Also if you do buy at a counter you can also check on line

KnifeAngel · 08/10/2019 23:38

I do mine online it's my DH who won't. It's so easy I know they email you when you win. He doesn't do technology.
