Old Thorns is lovely. I was a member of their gym there a couple of years ago when I lived closer, they often ran entertainment evenings with live music and food etc.
Spa was really nice too.
Only stayed ones as it was too close to justify it and the room we had was fairly standard but we just went for one of the basic rooms - lots of other choices if you wanted something more swanky.
