At what age do you think it's okay to let children play by themselves in garden?

With living room windows and back door wide open so you can hear them easily.

Depends on the garden. DS played on his own in the garden from being not much more than a toddler but the garden was fenced in and was all grass - no tempting looking plants to eat or ponds to fall in.

My lo was about two!

You need to give a bit more information on the garden, is it fenced in, are there concrete areas, steps, a pond, prisoners plants etc

HumptyDumptyHadAGreatFall · 08/10/2019 17:06

Yes it's fenced in, no ponds, there is some concrete.

Prisoners in the garden?! Is that a be common concern? Shock

About five, assuming no prisoners or ponds OP.

From age 2 when I'm in the kitchen and can see them.

Unless you have a massive imminent drip feed I don't understand why at as little as 1yr you couldn't leave them, say, on a blanket with a few toys whilst you run in to put the kettle on or something.

My DD wouldn't have been on her own at that age for long as we have dogs, but she's always been allowed to come in and out of the garden whenever she wants.

PotteringAlong · 08/10/2019 17:11

Mine have been out there since they can walk!

BeanBag7 · 08/10/2019 17:12

My 2 year old plays in the garden while I'm in the kitchen.

Enclosed back garden, locked gate, no steep drops or pond.

It's not any different to letting them play in the living room while you're in the kitchen.

Depends on your plants really, and if you've got an muncher or not.

Ours were 4 and 3. We have a covered pond and some poisonous plants so I had to know they were past putting random crap in their mouths.

Teddybear45 · 08/10/2019 17:24

DN tried to eat spiders so she wasn’t allowed out by herself until she was 4. Other kids might be ok from 2-3.
