How can I stop people putting dog shit in our skip?

Bastards. They have to walk round the car and up the drive to chuck their disgusting bags of turd in and now it's going to sit there for weeks. Apart from sticking a note up or installing CCTV how can we stop them? Creative/entertaining ideas welcome to stop me stewing about this. Bastards. Did I say that already?

Put a big sign on the drive...THIS SKIP CONTAINS ASBESTOS >>>DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN IT OR THE CONTENTS WILL BE DISTURBED AND YOU WILL BE EXPOSED

They will crap themselves...the people who've already done it.

heidipi · 08/10/2019 08:14

Ooh I love that!

Water pistol?

BillHadersNewWife · 08/10/2019 08:16

Yes! You just need a big piece of cardboard....write it clearly and large.

heidipi · 08/10/2019 08:57

When we hired a skip a couple of years ago someone dumped an old suitcase init but forgot to remove the luggage tag with their address on, so DP took it back and put it on their doorstep. I'd love to do the same with the shit.

It's definitely a problem. Skip companies should provide lids which lock somehow.

NoSquirrels · 08/10/2019 09:34

Do the asbestos note Grin

But, alternatively, maybe just try not to worry about it? It’s bagged up, right? And it’s October not steaming hot August, and the skip is outside. Unless it’s carthorse-sized piles of poo it’s not going to take up any room.

goingtotown · 08/10/2019 09:50

Neighbour has a cardboard sign on the skip (that’s blocked my view since August). ‘SMILE YOU’RE ON CCTV’

HollyBollyBooBoo · 08/10/2019 09:53

Why does it matter - genuinely intrigued!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 08/10/2019 09:57

Why does it matter? Because they don’t want bags of dog shit stinking their house and driveway out for the next few weeks. Can you imagine how. I hope there will be if she lets it continue? I take it you’re the type of person to wander up someone’s drive and leave a bag of shit there aren’t you? Hmm

Rachelover60 · 08/10/2019 10:03

Gosh, I've had skips outside my house but never had that put in them. It's dreadful! I suppose if it is wrapped up well no one would know and the skip eventually taken away. I don't understand it though, why would anyone do that?

TwattingDog · 08/10/2019 10:05

Put a tarpaulin cover over the skip.

Anyone with half a brain will know asbestos skips are sealed, so you can't rely on the alone. Sods law says you'd get someone reporting you to the council for incorrect storage / removal 😂

Velveteenfruitbowl · 08/10/2019 10:07

Just cover it. It will stop people dumping other stuff in there as well. I just don’t understand why people think it’s ok to do this.

TankGirl97 · 08/10/2019 10:11

Put a tarp on it. Surely you don’t want it filling with rainwater either?
They are bastards, I agree. We live on a popular dog walking route and the few that allow their dogs to crap anywhere drive me mad.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 08/10/2019 10:19

Stinking their house out for weeks. Jeez the drama!!

heidipi · 08/10/2019 10:28

Ok not stinking the house out for weeks but yes the skip is going to stink of dog shit! Maybe dog owners could leave a pile of bagged up shit outside their own front door for a few weeks of it's not a problem!!

We recently moved into a house that had been left as was, furnished, food still in cupboards. In all we had 6 skips over 3 months. People are strange about skips! We had people put their rubbish in then, scrap men doing drive bys, passers by climbing in and routing, people knocking on the door to ask if they could take stuff! Was so strange!

maslinpan · 08/10/2019 10:39

Take a pic of a dog poo bin and a skip, and make a notice with helpful labelling to explain the difference.

NaomiFromMilkShake · 08/10/2019 10:46

The poor opos who have to pick through that skip when it gets back.Sad

Soola · 08/10/2019 12:01

I’ve seen an open top bin next to a skip with a big sign indicating dog poo bags in bin only.

I don’t know if this was implemented by the homeowner, builder or skip firm.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 08/10/2019 12:04

I always ask skip companies to drop off early and collect late the same day other wise people take the piss and use if for their rubbish.
Not ideal for a long running bulking project but good for if I want to clear a room or the garden for instance.

verticality · 08/10/2019 12:07

Don't do the asbestos note. Don't get me wrong, it's really funny and I love that type of thing - but you will invite in 1,000 busy bodies who will tell you that you are not allowed to put asbestos in a skip and that it needs to be removed and bagged in special bags adn then taken to the council recycling point and yadda yadda yadda. You will literally have every know-it-all in the neighbourhood banging on your door to tell you how it's done.

TheQueef · 08/10/2019 12:13

Years ago when clearing my Nans flat someone used our skip.
They put an upright piano in it. It was a small skip, it filled it.
Worse thing is there were four of us there, small flat, skip under the window...
We didn't see or hear a thing! It wasn't there when we arrived, it just appeared Confused

DamonSalvatoresDinner · 08/10/2019 12:16

Cover the skip with something. Maybe call the skip company and ask if they have skip covers. They may provide them at no charge, after all, they don't want dog poop either.

heidipi · 08/10/2019 13:56

I think we've got a tarpaulin that'll do the job - just gave me the rage to find 3 new bags this morning. This is why we put it further away from the pavement - cos easily accessible to passers by is apparently the same as a sign saying "Hi! We've paid for this skip for everyone to dump their shit in (literally) so go ahead - be our guests!" Why don't dog walkers just take it home and put it in their own bin? Oh yeah, cos having turds in your bin is grim so let someone else deal with it.
