What toys are banned in your house?

Ds2 absolutely loves play-doh but I refuse to have it in the house anymore as it turns him into a screaming, raging beast. Every attempt goes the same way, Ds sees all the animal shapes and gets very excited and wants the giraffe. We choose a colour, roll out the play-doh and make the giraffe, all good so far and ds having a great time. Then every fucking time he will pull the giraffe's head off and scream "MY GIRAFFE!!" and fling himself on the floor to thrash and wail for at least 45 minutes before flipping the table and trying to stomp anything dd4 has made. Play-doh is now banned in my house until ds turns 18.

Take it outside as messy play for when you go park.

Sleepyhead19 · 07/10/2019 10:19

CrumpleHornedSnowcack · 07/10/2019 10:21

Wouldn't that be dangerous for wildlife?

Slime

SleepingStandingUp · 07/10/2019 10:25

Also toy guns.
Water pistols are not brought if they're specifically in the shape of guns to answer the question up thread.

GailTheFish · 07/10/2019 10:26

Kinetic sand.

Parker231 · 07/10/2019 10:26

Toy guns

Buddyelf · 07/10/2019 10:30

Bunchems - there is no doubt my DC would get them tangled in their hair

Makesmilingyourbesthobby · 07/10/2019 10:30

No Slime in this house after DD1 (11) ruined a carpet after a couple of other things getting ruined too and all stationary is on top of my kitchen units as DD2 (5) has a habit of drawing on all things and herself no matter how many chats we've had about it so only comes out when they have asked for it so I know they have it to monitor DD2 with them

BecomesHelen · 07/10/2019 10:30

Slime
Those sticky things that leave grease stains on the walls

Not sure taking the play doh to the park would solve the tantrums over the giraffe tbh

Patchworksack · 07/10/2019 10:33

Nerf guns and slime.

Sparklingbrook · 07/10/2019 10:34

When mine were little I too only allowed Play Doh outside. IIRC they had that awful barbers shop set. Angry

Those dinosaur excavation sets. DS2 and his mate spent an evening in the living room trying to get the dinosaur out. I actually had to hoover his mate before he went home.

I allowed guns and Nerf Wars were very popular in this house. I miss them. Sad

brittlestar · 07/10/2019 10:36

Noisy battery operated toys. Used to have them but sold them on Ebay/ gave to charity and now I get mostly wooden toys that encourage them to use their imagination more.

EssentialHummus · 07/10/2019 10:52

PlayDoh only in the high chair here.

She’s only 2 so I think I need to brace myself Grin.

Yes! Yes! Yes!
As soon as I got rid of the fuckers, someone else bought it for DD2 as a birthday gift!

Pinkyyy · 07/10/2019 10:57

Play doh, sand and and marbles.

Greggers2017 · 07/10/2019 10:57

@makesmilingyourbesthobby I feel your pain with the slime both DD and DSD have ruined their bedroom carpets with it, clogged up my blender with foam slime and stained my bathroom lino with food colouring 😤

Banned in my house is slime and moon sand 🙄
And any Vtech toy with that annoying American accent.

Passmethecrisps · 07/10/2019 10:58

Looking round my house right now I would like to hire a skip and chuck categorically everything in it.

I have said no to more slime as it just seems so pointless and messy. I also wondered what I had done to offend the person who bought us kinetic sand. It’s hideous stuff.

calmalamadown · 07/10/2019 11:03

I love kinetic sand. I don't let the kids play with it often though 😂

Nerf guns are allowed but children are taught the difference between these and real guns (my husband and his family shoot, as do many people locally). It's also quite fun and our house and garden are a good site for battles!

theneverendinglaundry · 07/10/2019 11:04

Sand, nerf guns, any kind of gun, bunchems, kinetic sand... oh god and balloons. For some reason, balloons always cause arguments between my kids.

user1493413286 · 07/10/2019 11:09

Toy hoovers, irons or sweeping brushes for my DD.

lyingwanker · 07/10/2019 11:14

Slime
Remember loom bands?
Hama beads

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/10/2019 11:22

Bought slime (but will happily make slime outside with them- not allowed in a carpeted room).
Bunch'ems after the bed incident... Why they were in the bed in anyone's guess...
I refuse to buy LOL or any Unboxing thing. They receive the odd one from other people on birthdays or Christmas.

They do have Nerf but we encourage target shooting and not allowed in the house. Guns for them are what soldiers/police use, not bad guys.

Camomila · 07/10/2019 11:22

DS loved his toy hoover!

I've taken the playdough to DMs as she has tiled floors and I've got carpet.
