Putting away pop up tent thingies

It doesn’t matter how many videos I watch, I cannot do it.

I have one from Ikea, you know the ones - the cube that the tunnel attaches to. I get to the twisty foldy part and I cannot do it. It’s like my arms need to be able to bend the wrong way.

Has anyone got any genius tips?

  1. Don't buy them
  2. Phone a friend

Can you tell I have never sussed it? DH looks at me like I have 2 heads as he just needs to look at them and they fold themselves and put themselves away Envy

Our beach shelters just get wedged in the car boot. I've given up trying to re-fold them.

Right? I feel like I’m living on another planet. Might have to sneak it in the bin when they’re in bed (if I can get it in the bin) 😂

Hahaha no advice but was just coming on to see if it is the ikea bastard cube!!
DS has one, it took me two videos and at least an hour to put the bastard thing away, it's up again now, I'm going to put it outside and let it blow away!!!

As an adult there are many, many simple things that completely elude me (I’m a barely functioning adult) except for this!
I don’t know how I can do it but for some reason I just can.
It’s like I get the Sherlock Holmes style transparent mind map in front of my eyes and my brain just works it all out and transfers the knowledge to my hands, it’s like a fugue state and when I come around it’s done!
Sorry to gloat but I can never usually do anything!

SinkGirl · 06/10/2019 13:28

Gloat away - I would get a plaque made up for myself if I could do it 😬

I'm laughing at this...We have a pop up windscreen sun visor.

OH and DS cannot for the life of them close it properly and it usually ends up pinging open wherever they put it.

Ive been put in charge of the beast

Windydaysuponus · 06/10/2019 13:33

Fold it anyway you can. Secure with a bungee strap!
Let dh or a friend /relative you aren't keen on open it...

mumonthehill · 06/10/2019 13:37

We still laugh 17 years on, about how we must have looked on a Cornish beach trying to put one of these away!!! We never ever used it again!

BlackCatSleeping · 06/10/2019 13:41

I think they can lose their foldability. I tried two pop up tent shelters, then gave up and bought a pop up tent with poles rather than the twisty thing. It was a bit expensive but never had a problem with it in 7 years.

Get as small as possible (still double starting size) the shove behind sofa or just leave up in garage (our current option) car is parked on the road because of pop up tents in the garage Blush
