Anyone who can get me up to speed on Trump impeachment etc?

I've been so busy following Brexit shenanigans that I've completely taken my eye off the ball re. Trump and the impeachment proceedings.
Anyone who knows what is going on willing to get me up to speed? I know it relates to him trying to convince Ukraine to dig up some dirt on the son of his likely Democratic opposition but no more. And what has Ukraine got to do with it anyway?
I would be very grateful for a short and easy to follow explainer, something I can't find in the media!

Basically, Pelosi and the Democrats have Trump Derangement Syndrome, but you can have a read up here

Thanks Soola - I was hoping for the simplified version in a paragraph or two!

Trump asked Prez of Ukraine to investigage Joe Biden.
Biden is a political rival to Trump (2020 Prez election).
This is very arguably asking a foreign country to interfere in US election.
Foreign countries interfering with US elections is very illegal.

First one and now 2 whistleblowers are giving evidence about all this happening.
BETTER: Trump admitted it was true. He admits he asked that and that the released transcript shows as much. T. insists what he said to Prez of Ukraine is ordinary, legitimate and not illegal. T. flip flops on admitting that he was withholding foreign assistance funds (to Ukraine) depending on whether or not Ukraine investigated Biden.

BETTER BETTER: Few days later (in last few days) Trump asked (on live TV) China to also investigate members of the Biden family for alleged crimes.

You know the Quantum Leap joke about Trump, yes?

All the President's Lawyers is a good listen, btw. I reckon they will cover the China invitation for instance.

Nice summary by someone I follow on Twitter. I wasn't up to speed with the Rick Perry twist, though.

So it he actually being impeached or is this an investigation to decide if he should be impeached?

And what exactly does impeachment mean?

lljkk · 06/10/2019 22:27

Impeachment = an indictment from the House for "high crimes and misdemeanors."

After the impeachment, the Senate has an opportunity to hold a trial.

If found guilty at the trial, then would be evicted from office.

Problem is this Senate are in T's pocket. They won't convict.... I think not, anyway.

lljkk · 06/10/2019 22:27

... Impeachment is a mult-step process, House is still at early steps.

BelindasGleeTeam · 06/10/2019 22:28

7 whistleblowers now.

If the evidence bis overwhelming, GOP may turn against him to aid their 2020 chances.

It's going to be an interesting few weeks

lljkk · 06/10/2019 22:30

SEVEN?

fedup21 · 06/10/2019 22:35

7 whistleblowers now.

Do you have a link for that??

honeybeetheoneandonly · 06/10/2019 22:44

Trump is like Teflon. Nothing will stick.

Basically, Pelosi and the Democrats have Trump Derangement Syndrome

Hardly.

Impeachment is a protection against the dangers someone like Trump poses.

Biden rises in the poll and Trump uses his position as POTUS to ask a foreign country to dig some dirt on Biden's son, his main political rival in the 2020 election.

Trump framed the requests as a “favour” after he reminded his counterpart in Ukraine that “the United States has been very, very good to Ukraine”. Overshadowing the conversation was the fact that Trump had recently suspended hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid that Congress had approved for Ukraine to defend itself against Russia.
In other words... ""I'll give you that but I need this from you"

Brave whistleblowers who are hardly fake given that they are putting their lives and those of their families on the line to do this.

Roussette · 06/10/2019 22:47

fedup It's all over Twitter. 2 are confirmed. The others are seeking protections.

Hoolajerry · 07/10/2019 05:39

Soola I am interested in why you state this is Trump derangement syndrome. Trump lies sbout everything, including this. I can't understand why you wouldn't think that is a bad thing. Can you explain?
