40th birthday presents - what did you love?

I want to buy something lovely and 'special' for my friends big birthday.

I usually buy her a piece of silver jewellery or a scarf, but want to get her something with a bit more resonance this year. It's a significant age for her, and her husband is not likely to go all out.

Did you get anything for a milestone birthday that you absolutely loved? My budget is around £50

I got a bread maker from my SIL which I LOVED. I appreciate that may not be everyone's choice!

What about a nice treat day somewhere? Spa, massage, fancy afternoon tea? Something you can share with her as a friend?

I'm a knitter and my DH bought me some lovely hand dyed silk yarn and a yarn bowl. It was the time he took to source something he knew I'd love but has no knowledge of that meant a lot.

I bought my friend a beautiful handmade bracelet from Etsy.

Friends bought me a thick bangle that was hand painted with a view from where we played as kids - no idea where they got it but it made me tear up!
