Driving test

Hi,

I'm a mess. I have my driving test in 2 days. I can't explain how important it is for me to be able to drive.

I just don't think I have a full grasp of driving and I know my instructor thinks he might have advised me to put in for my test too early.

Today I drove up a lane into oncoming traffic. The lanes weren't clearly defined and I just panicked - there were no other cars btw.

Not being able to drive has been a HUGE thing for me and for various reasons I've only really been able to start learning now. Should I cancel my test?

Wise Mumsnetters, pls help me!!!!

I have failed my test 3 times. I was 40 last week. I have my test booked for three weeks time. I know I can drive, but I have such bad anxiety, that I completely doubt myself and my ability. I think only you know if toure ready. I completely understand the need to pass. I have a 2 year old and a 4 month and it would just allow me to do so much more with them and open up my options for different jobs. Lots of luck.

I failed mine 5 times so I feel your pain.

The thing that really helped me pass was talking to myself aloud so he could hear my thinking and at the end he told me I would have got a major fault for something but because I said aloud what I was doing he was able to see why I made that decision and had he not heard me say why I did it, then he would have assumed I'd done it mistakenly.

Testi is a driving test cancellation app so if you fail you can find a cancellation quicker than booking a test through the normal route.

Good luck.

Good luck OP. I'll be thinking of you.
Remember it's just another practice!

What helped me was driving without my instructor. My husband took me out in our car and it made such a difference for my confidence, my instructor then noticed a difference in my driving too. It helped when it came to my test to know I could do it without her

Best of luck!!!

Apolloanddaphne · 04/10/2019 11:00

Good luck.

HI All,

Thanks for the support. I FAILED!

The lesson went really well, but I was really overthinking my manoeuvres so we did lots of practice on that.

Started the test with a reverse park into a bay (In the test centre) and I DIDNT FUCKING CHECK OVER MY SHOULDERS! Fail. The rest of the test was fine. 4 minors.

Very frustrating, but I know now that I CAN pass the test and I will do when I sit my next one in the next few weeks.

Thank you to all of you last night for your support. It really helped me sort my head out and be calm this morning. I feel so much more positive about the whole thing now.

Will keep you updated!

congrats op. thats a big win. now for your next test hopefully it wont be as scary.

ive got mine in a few weeks.. what show me tell me questions were you asked?

katewhinesalot · 04/10/2019 12:31

All the best people pass second time anyway...

cantmovewont · 04/10/2019 12:46

Crazylady7- Lol he asked me about the tyres and he asked me to wash the front and back windows whilst I was driving. Wasn't too sure about that and didn't know how to switch the windscreen wipers off - he had to tell me but that was fine because I fixed it without it affecting my driving.

I definitely made it out to be a bigger thing than it is. It has ended up a really positive experience for me. I feel happy have to keep reminding myself that I failed. Maybe I'm just relieved it's over.

Katewhinesalot - For sure!

It sounds like you've learned a lot from the test, so it certainly wasn't a waste of time. To be fair you probably weren't quite ready to pass, but you will be in a better place next time.

Frazzled2207 · 04/10/2019 16:08

Well done. 4 minors is really good. I got loads more than that.
Pleased you're not too disheartened- many very good drivers (including my DH) fail first time.

You will pass next time.

JackNamesThePlanets · 07/10/2019 12:26

I failed too SadI got 5 minions and was doing really well (for me!!) then 3 minutes before the end (the test centre was in sight) I stupidly pulled into a box junction when the exit wasn't clear. SO STUPID!! such a silly thing to do, and knew I'd fucked up immediately. So frustrating, but I'm happy with the rest of it :/

JackNamesThePlanets · 07/10/2019 12:26

Ha, minors, not minions

cantmovewont · 06/11/2019 12:05

Hi all!

I passed my second driving test today! Woohoo! Thanks for all your support last time. It helped me again last night and today when I re read the thread.

I may or may not have ugly cried at my examiner!

ALemonyPea · 06/11/2019 12:12

Amazing! Congratulations.

When I passed my test I grabbed the examiner for a cuddle Blush then burst into tears.
