What time are wages paid in?

I due to be paid today. Pretty desperate, been an expensive moth and I'm iny overdraft...

Haven't been paid yet. It's 6.10am.

I'm being bullied and one member of that 'clique' does some of the office work - including wages.

On the verge of tears. No energy to fight this.

How late is too late? When can I assume they've not paid me?

I am sure some places have to manually click for payment so could be a tad later? If they aren’t in by 12, I would query it!

FallenSky · 30/09/2019 06:16

Is this your first pay day? If not, is it usually in at this time in the morning? I'm with nationwide and payments usually clear at around 3am. Some banks before, some after. Do you know how you are paid?

honeyalmondlatte · 30/09/2019 06:19

I would expect to be paid at midnight on payday. So 6 hours ago. I would give till lunchtime then ring payroll.
Sometimes things are done alphabetically depending on your surname. I doubt someone is withholding your pay purposely. That's a very serious sackable offence.

pisspants · 30/09/2019 06:19

with first direct my payments clear at about 3am. In my Monzo account, it's more like 7am. I am not sure why, but suspect Monzo is paying less somewhere along the line, be it fewer of their staff who process it or a 3rd party who deals with it. I am guessing it differs from bank to bank.

RubertRoo · 30/09/2019 06:20

I work for a small company and mine doesn't usually go in until around lunchtime even though they process it days in advance. my colleague who banks with the same bank as the company usually has hers in around 10am but mine is around 12-1pm

ALemonyPea · 30/09/2019 06:24

Depends on your bank, I'm with NatWest and mine are usually in around 3/4am. When I banked with Lloyd's it was in at midnight.

Occasionally it might not show until banking hours, so 9am onwards.

Hopefully it's nothing to do with the bullies, and just a banking delay showing it in your account.

Justabadwife · 30/09/2019 06:27

I'm with a building society and they seem to do everything at 8am, so I know my wages wont be in before then. Hope yours turn up soon 🤞

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 30/09/2019 06:36

No, been there a while.

Usually paid at around 4/5am.

Feeling quite anxious about it.

I do payroll. Most banks vary. Once, one of our HSBC accounts didn't hit till 9am.

Poonmig · 30/09/2019 06:44

As Oblomov says, it can vary - we once didn’t receive it til noon. It was carnage in the office that day

DwangelaForever · 30/09/2019 06:56

My work manual pays their wages through bank transfer so it can take all day ... (it normally doesnt but it could)

adaline · 30/09/2019 06:59

Midnight or just after.

I've never ever woken up for work on payday and not been paid.

hardyloveit · 30/09/2019 07:01

I've had this before! Worked for an idiot and when I was on maternity he would purposely pay me late as in a few days late! In the end I took him to a small claims court as I was getting bank charges because all my direct debits would come out 2 days after payday and he hadn't paid me.

If it isn't in there by lunchtime I'd speak to the payroll and ask what's going on.

x2boys · 30/09/2019 08:30

My dh usually clears after midnight up to about 1am as do other payments we bank with Lloyds , I hope they have cleared for you now Op?

BarbaraofSeville · 30/09/2019 08:32

Unless it's a tiny company pay usually hits accounts overnight as its done by BACS and I would have thought it should be in by now, but if it's a very small company and they do pay by someone sitting there making manual payments, a bit like you would do yourself with internet banking, it would be whenever the money is sent, as it hits the receiving account within seconds/minutes/an hour or two of being sent.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 30/09/2019 08:32

If not try not to worry. If there's been a mistake they can Faster Payment you the amount owed.

Have you any friends at work you can text to see if they have been paid?

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 30/09/2019 08:34

Unless you need to withdraw cash it doesn't much matter imo as any debits/card purchases won't register until the end of the day .. so by then the money should be in to pay for them.

Use your card today or get cashback

x2boys · 30/09/2019 08:37

How does that work Clouds? If I have no money in the banking debit card won't work .

HRH2020 · 30/09/2019 08:39

What bank are you with as DP's wages also not gone in when they are usually there

PurpleDaisies · 30/09/2019 08:41

I’d give your workplace a call when they open.

Mine are there now.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 30/09/2019 08:42

Contactless usually works even if the account is empty as the contactless transactions don't process til the shop chooses to do them - in bulk - usually at the end of the day.

ffswhatnext · 30/09/2019 08:45

I wish my bank was aware of that Clouds.
A few times I’ve been in store spent a tenner, have 9.99 in the account and transaction declined.

ffswhatnext · 30/09/2019 08:47

And that’s been by pin and contactless.

I usually get it by 1:30 am. Been a few times it’s been later but by the time I’ve gone to work it’s there.

lastqueenofscotland · 30/09/2019 08:49

Usually very early morning but I do the odd shift in a pub that pays weekly and that tends to come in at 10am ish

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 30/09/2019 08:52

Cloud if I have no money in my account contactless or chip and pin in shops won't let me pay for anything.

Not all banks work the same
