Anyone else get bad stomach pain after a takeaway?

It happens every time! Chinese is usually the worst but I've just had pizza and my stomach's killing. Well, it's more in the pelvic area, where I get period pain, feels like my insides are being twisted and squeezed Confused

Is this an intolerance to something? Maybe the grease disagreeing with me? I don't think the food is off or anything, I'm not blaming the establishments, and I never get an upset stomach from it. Just get this pain for a couple of hours.

It's a bummer though, I love a good takeaway.

Yes probably things that are high in fat and greasy sadly.

I sometimes have the same thing. I get bad ibs flare ups sometimes though. Fish and chips is a major trigger for me. I think it's the batter.

Ah, thanks sugartits sniggers like a juvenile Grin

Why is all the nice stuff bad for us? It's not fair.

Yes! I’ve had this today after a small amount of takeaway curry last night. Felt like early labour pains!
I think it’s because I’ve been eating pretty healthily for a good few months and my stomach just can’t take it anymore

Yeah I've been on a diet and cutting down on alcohol and now whenever I eat anything junky or have a drink I feel dreadful afterwards. Life is shit sometimes!

Yeah, that's the pain! It feels uncomfortable when lying down as well, like really ripping. Ouch, not worth it. Also eat healthily through the week then have takeaways as a sort of social with the family every couple of weekends, so maybe there's something in that, like our bodies are losing tolerance or something?

Just wish I could enjoy one without having to dread the pain. I thought I was a weirdo Grin

My intolerance of MSG started like this and the last time I ate Chinese, I spent the entire night on the toilet with a bowl on my lap. We were out when the worst hit me, and were lucky to get back home, as I am the only driver in the family. If it only happens after eating Chinese, it could be MSG intolerance.

StillMedusa · 30/09/2019 00:15

Yes. Chinese is the worst.. cramps and bloating, with a horrible headache the next day. I'm pretty sure in my case it's the MSG.

But still I can't resist!

blancheduboiss · 30/09/2019 00:17

I had a dominos the other night, and ended up doubled over in agony an hour or so later! Must stop eating junk as it never settles with me properly

TateWorm · 30/09/2019 00:22

My DH does. Chinese was always the worst, we now ask for his food without MSG and it doesn't affect him the same way now.

I can't eat Indian takeaways anymore - on three separate occasions I've had D&V within an hour or two, and it was three different takeaway places so not caused a particular restaurant's hygiene for example. Other takeaways usually fine though. DH thinks it's because Indian is generally quite rich, lots of ghee etc

Wonderland18 · 30/09/2019 00:24

IBS I cannot have an Indian without being in agony the full night.. I still indulge and regret it within the hour every time.

Starting to get the same with chippies but who honestly wants to give up takeaway food?!

PennyNotSoWise · 30/09/2019 11:10

Wow, so a lot of you get it too, I had no idea it was an actual 'thing'. Chinese is worse, but it does happen with any takeaway really. Is MSG the thing that makes you hungry too? Because I wake up after a Chinese feeling like I haven't had anything to eat for a week!

Exactly Grin I'm a glutton for punishment, I know it's gonna happen but I can't say no when the family whip out the menus.

I'll try this next time and see if there's a difference, thank you.

Could it be your gall bladder / gall stones

Really not sure. I hope not!

Yep, anything rich or not the norm I cannot tolerate anymore. Was out on sat for lunch had pain and diarrhoea then Chinese last night was up half the night.

Think I have ibs, always suffered but it’s getting worse so going to calm my diet down go bland and take pro biotics.
I drink peppermint tea/take tablets which may help if you take them prior to eating greasy/takeaway type meals.

Oooh, I'll give that a try too, thanks for the tip :)

I'd always assumed it wasn't IBS, because I thought I'd be affected by a lot more different foods, this thread has changed my mind on that.
