What's the deal with crane flies

Seriously I read somewhere that this year there was supposed to be a lull in crane flies because of some reason (completely forgotten it now mind)... however I swear they've all come to our house as there's always a few (it feels like loads each day) bobbing around trying to chase me out of each room I go in.
Why why why do they have to exist and come back each year?! 😩

We haven't had any yet! Spiders in the other hand...

We've had loads this year! Close your doors and windows early evening as they are attracted indoors by the light.

Seriously?

ALL the feckers are at my house.

If they're not flying around the lamps and terrifying me then the cats are chasing them or eating them (eurgh, but also yay! one down!) or they are expired on windowsills or caught in spider webs in the corners of the ceiling or if you go out to escape the hell that is your house they're leaping at you from the tall grass...

I hate them. They're all partying over here. Eurgh.

I haven't seen any this year

hussandchips56 · 28/09/2019 23:01

I'm a lunchtime supervisor and every day this week a child has come up to me with closed cupped hands and said Miss do you want to see my new pet? They then open hands to show a daddy long legs, aww I say, let him go poor thing, while inside shrieking fuck if you dangly legged spider wannabe

hussandchips56 · 28/09/2019 23:02

*off

Floopily · 28/09/2019 23:04

They are EVERYWHERE here! Dead ones all over my outside windowsills, they keep landing on the washing, at least one flies in every time I let the dog out for a wee. When will it stop????

Fishcakey · 28/09/2019 23:04

I weirdly like them but am terrified of spiders. I didn't know there was meant to be a lack of them this year but funny you say that, we were camping last weekend and normally our awning is full if them at this time of year but we only had one or two.

DramaAlpaca · 28/09/2019 23:51

I've only seen one or two this year. It's maybe because the weather has been so bad where I am recently, but usually we are overrun with them.

PickAChew · 28/09/2019 23:55

The rest are at mine. Or they were until I squished the buggers.

Ceefa2 · 29/09/2019 00:20

I've seen a few this year. Why oh why do they ALWAYS flit towards your face??! 😡

Arrowfanatic · 29/09/2019 08:19

I've had one manage to get in every night for a week now which is fewer than usual but they seem bigger than usual too.

MissCharleyP · 29/09/2019 08:53

Loads here (or the same one that DH chucks our every night is coming back for another go). Dog hates them, we can tell by the way he runs into the living room that there’s one in the kitchen/dining room.
