Is there a park & ride for the SECC in Glasgow?

I've never driven in a big city and don't think I'm quite ready for it yet, I've not been driving for that long. I'd like to go to an event at the SECC but can't find the easiest way for me to get there. I'm thinking about driving to somewhere on the outskirts of Glasgow and get a bus in. Would that work?

Is there not a train station nearby

There's a train very close to the SECC, it's also very walkable from the city centre train stations, depending on how late your event finishes for coming back.

That said, if you're OK on motorways it's pretty much motorway all the way into the car park, it's not really a 'city' drive.

It’s got it’s own train station, a covered walkway takes you straight in, the easiest way unless you happen to live on the route is to go to central station and get the train from there.

But it’s not a hugely city drive as already mentioned, it’s really close to the motorway.

Are you coming from North or South? If South up the M74 there's free parking at Newton train station and trains direct to the SECC.

The car park for the SECC is so close to the motorway that city driving doesn't come into it. You don't need to drive through the city or in any awkward places or weird one-way streets or anything. Really, it's so easy.

But the parking is expensive! So just take the train into central, then to the exhibition centre and then follow the walkway.

Getting back out the SECC car park is a nightmare, if your going to a big event.
Train to central, then exhibition centre and follow the walkway.

Just get the underground to the Exhibition Centre station.

Even though you don’t have to drive in the city as such, I find it can be a bit difficult to find way into car parks there when not familiar with layout and if it’s busy. Easy to miss a turn and then be away in wrong direction.

I’d just take the train - it’s set up for that. Much more relaxing way to get there.

I drove in the other week, after always getting the train, it was a small event with people coming and going all day so not busy and though it was dead easy, parking was expensive, I still had to walk just as far as if I'd got the train (disability means I can't walk far), and for a big event it'd be a nightmare.
Much easier on the train.

The train looks like my easiest option, I'll have a look and see if there's one goes to Central Station from my neck of the woods. Thank you Smile
