How do I get rid of this from my screen on my Surface?

It's the volume. Stuck at the front of anything I am reading/working on. How did it get there? How do I get rid of it???

No, the X just shows that the volume's on mute!

What happens if you right click on it? Do you get more options?

I get this occasionally on mine. Usually switching it off and on again gets rid of any stuck icons...
