This question has me completely stumped. From it ds is supposed to gain a date and time for "murder".

I have been looking at it so long that over lost the plot. Ds has done the workings and I think they're correct? But we still can't fathom the answer Shock

Any ideas? I'm already longing for the primary daysWink

I think you were only supposed to pick out the correct readings and resulting calculation from each side. On the left it is 5 - (-10) so 15.

On the right it is 25 - (-5) so the murder occurred at 15:30.

I agree with walks

All the calculations are correct, and selecting the 'correct' ones for the arrows gives the time as 15:30.

Oh I see! How stupid am I Blush
Still no clue as to the date though...

Post a picture of the Why section and I'm sure we'll work it out for you. Smile

The KS3 CGP Maths guide might help you in general.

Sorry he had to hand in the homework yesterday. Luckily the rest of the boys were equally as stumped about the date. It was because the teacher had forgotten to copy that part!!!

Not a clue, I don't even understand year 3 homework half the time. Surely it's for the kids to do as if you help then the teachers don't know they're struggling.

What walksen said: only one out of each set of four poss calculations is the correct one - you're supposed to look at the thermometer and identify which of the calculations matches the calculation you'd need to do re the thermometer. However, the instructive wording is absolutely pants, and doesn't make this clear at all. I mean, shockingly shit Grin If he gets any more homeworks which are this poorly worded, I'd have a word with the teacher.
