Mortgage protection payment late, I’m screwed

My partner was made redundant and my mortgage protection payment kicked in and was first paid on 30th August. So we have planned our bills around the next payment on 30th September.

We just rang them to check we didn’t need to do anything For the next payment to be made and they said it will be paid on the 15th October and the 15th of each month going forward. Apparently the end of August payment was an error and should have actually been paid on 15th Sep. What can I do????? Please help, my bills will go unpaid and I’ll incur charges I just can’t afford right now!!!

You will need to speak to the people who need paying and explain

Ring up all those expecting payments and explain the situation. Ask to change the payments to them for the day after your insurance comes in.

I agree. Ring and change the date of the payment.

Thanks for your advice. I’ve managed to change a couple of them. The others I have to just let the direct debit fail and pay it on the 15th, because it’s so close to the due date the payment process has already started. Hopefully because it’s paid within a month my credit file won’t be damaged too much.
