I'm off sick with a heavy cold. Its a bit weird, I haven't had a sick day for over 10 years. I'm exhausted and I ache all over, please could someone recommend me a film to doze in front of this afternoon. I like films with string female leads, but not too girly - Steel Magnolias, Terms of Endearment, In Her Shoes type of thing.

If you have Netflix try Unbelievable it’s great!

ohmysoul · 25/09/2019 12:57

Not sure if this fits, but my go to film when I'm unwell is Shirley Valentine.

BikeRunSki · 25/09/2019 13:01

You know what, I have never seen Shirley Valentine! Will watch that.

We have Netflix, with try Unbelievable next.

Thank you.

You are in for a treat! Enjoy.

Itsallpointless · 25/09/2019 13:04

Shirley Valentine is one of the best films I have ever seen, this thread has just prompted me to watch it again..hope you feel better soon!

PS I watched Bridesmaids recently, that was hilarious!

Soola · 25/09/2019 13:04

Leave her to heaven - Gene Tierney.

angemorange · 25/09/2019 13:09

Blue Jasmine is good (Cate Blanchett)

Love Shirley Valentine/When Harry met Sally/anything with Melissa Mccarthy :)

floffel · 25/09/2019 13:14

Shirley Valentine is brilliant!

two older films I love are Hobson's Choice (the 1954 film) and All about Eve.

Pancakeflipper · 25/09/2019 13:15

The Big Sick.
I came across it by chance and loved it

Mitebiteatnite · 25/09/2019 13:19

My favourite ever film to watch when I'm feeling lousy is Practical Magic. I can't tell you why, because I don't know. But if I'm poorly and take myself up to bed, DH will come up shortly after with a cup of tea, paracetemol and water, and Practical Magic on dvd without even being asked Grin

LBOCS2 · 25/09/2019 13:20

I have the same cold. I'm working my way through New Amsterdam on prime :)

4forkssake · 25/09/2019 13:29

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistletop Cafe

CoffeeAndEnnui · 25/09/2019 13:30

Aside from the usual classics, A Simple Favour, with Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, is fairly new to Netflix and makes nice snarky trash for an afternoon on the sofa.

Get well soonBrew

FitzChivalry · 25/09/2019 13:31

The ghost and Mrs Muir

milliefiori · 25/09/2019 13:33

My ill-film is Legally Blonde. It probably is too girly but it's funny and Elle is such a strong likeable character.
Lots of good suggestions here. I want to see Bridesmaids and Shirley Valentine too.

Crazyladee · 25/09/2019 13:37

I have the same cold too, OP! Before I got ill, we went to see Downton Abbey at the cinema.
Now I'm rewatching starting with series 1, episode 1.

PhantomErik · 25/09/2019 13:39

The Hunger Games - brilliant film!

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

troppibambini · 25/09/2019 13:40

I'm exactly the sameSad
I watched bohemian rhapsody yesterday and a star is born today.

Howlongtillbedtime · 25/09/2019 13:41

Pride is a brilliant film if you haven't seen it.

I think it's on prime but not sure about netflix.

Hope you feel better !

Crazyladee · 25/09/2019 13:41

@mitebiteatnite

You're lucky. My DH is in a strop with me for keeping him awake all night with me sneezing and tossing and turning as I'm intermittently shivering and sweating. He says I should have gone downstairs and slept on the couch! I told him where to go.

OMGshefoundmeout · 25/09/2019 14:56

Wine Country on Netflix is great especially if you’ve ever gone away with a group of girl friends. I was cringing sometimes wondering which character I was most like.

BikeRunSki · 25/09/2019 14:57

Shirley V is had hit the spot perfectly. I don’t think i’ll be at work tommorow either, so I have plenty to keep me going.

I feel like a bit of a fraud. I haven’t had a non-Pregnancy related sick day in over 10 years. I might ache and shake all over, but it’s been rather nice lying on the sofa and watching films while the dc are at school.

Love, Simon - I watched it on a plane and it's so heartwarming that I bawled my eyes out at the end. In public.

Miss Congeniality is a classic.

Collectorofcookbooks · 25/09/2019 15:44

How about Otherhood? Made me laugh a lot! As did It’s Complicated with Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin.

Hope you feel better soon!
