Anyone ever been in a choir / community singing group (London)?

Posting on here as London board seems v quiet. After another thread about evening hobbies (for a lonely wife with a working late DH...) I am now thinking about joining a choir (live in London).

I am nervous about stepping into a new group so looking for any recommendations.

Has anyone in London been in a choir? Criteria would be:
-friendly, no proper audition (though I am a good singer but not a confident soloist)

  • repertoire not too cheesy (classical, some contemporary or gospel but nothing too cringe)
-sociable, e.g. pub afterwards, somewhere I am likely to meet people
  • varied ages - not overwhelmingly silver haired (!)

I can travel to most areas of London.

Is there such a choir?

An old school friend of mine runs a choir in London. It's called London City voices. He also runs some smaller Hummy Mummy groups too.

I'd love to be in his choir. It looks like a lot of fun. I don't live in London though

Many moins ago I used to sing with North Camden Chorus - they meet in Tufnell Park area. No audition, mostly classical with a bit of other stuff and regularly to the pub accros the road once rehearsal was done. I only stopped going when I moved away.
