Skip company has abandoned skip outside our house!

In early to mid June we ordered a skip to unload some stuff into from garage tidy up. Skip machine's card machine was broken, we organised to leave payment with a friend as we had to go away for several weeks and the skip company still hadn't picked up skip/payment by the time we left...

...we came back, skip still with us! I have been phoning several times a week, every time they just say they will come today! Then don't show.

The skip is on the road outside our house, I feel SOOO bad for our lovely neighbours, all of whom have been nice about it (I have apologised to everyone I've seen).

It's nearly October! Who can I call about this? Can the council help? How long does it have to be there before it's classed as abandoned?

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I'm in Northern Ireland if that makes a difference.

Hmmmm. We had similar in that they didn’t take our full skip away for ages. Builder said it was common because they make their money when they deliver the empty ones. But we had already paid and I see they haven’t collected payment off you so that’s odd! Our builder hassled them which got it sorted eventually which doesn’t help you, sorry. Maybe threaten to leave a bad review on social media?!

I might be completely wrong but I though skips on the road had to have special orange flashy lights on them. Does your have orange flashy lights on it? If not call the council and report it I'm sure they will move the skip rather than get fines or whatever the penalty is.

Find another skip company and ask them if they want a free one? Or possibly approach Highways because it's an obstruction.

WalkingInTheAir13 · 24/09/2019 17:52

Any skip placed on the public highway must have a Skip Licence issued by the local authority.

Is the skip sign written?

Telephone your local council, ask to be connected to the skip licensing department and tell them what you have told us.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT, I think mr skip man whiles away the skip hours on mumsnet.

WITHIN THE HOUR of me writing that, it was lifted and away! After more than 3 months!

It def didn’t have lights or a notice!

Mr skip man, if you are reading, I cannot commend your punctuality but I am SO pathetically grateful it’s gone.

Sorry to everything else I was all ready to do a parking style diagram et al.
