Food banks, pet food

Just thought I'd post this as it occured to me it might be something people don't think of (I didn't)

We have a community cafe near us which is also a food bank. I was haing a cup of tea there this morning and talking to a lady who had come to get a food parcel, she said she actually worries more about feeding her cats than feeding herself (and in fact the FB didn't have any to give to her). The food bank list at the cafe doesn't have pet food on it, but it is Trussell Trust and they do list pet food on their website.

So just a reminder if you are giving to a FB pop in a bit of cat or dog food as well if you can Smile

Yes it's true ! If people struggle to feed themselves they will struggle to feed their pets. A lot of pet shops do this but I think they mainly might go to shelters (not sure).
If dog food is on special offer it's always good to buy another bag and donate it. We do this whenever sales are on with dried food & treats.

I donate pet food rather than endless bags of pasta and tins of beans. I know how important pets are to people and it might save someone having to give up their companion which if lucky would maybe get a rescue place which would also need donations.

I also donate to the rescue which has a collection point next to the food bank one, they have a little shop type thing where they sell it cheaply to people who know about the rescue. I actually visit the rescue to donate as I also give them other pet items and opened boxes of food.

The food bank I volunteer at gives out pet food. We started when we realised that people were asking for extra tuna for their pet cats.

Our local foodbank (Trussel Trust) takes pet food too.
