Why do my slow cooker meals taste either metallic or sickly sweet?

I have a big standard Crockpot slow cooker with both a single and a double chamber insert. I used to love it, but for the last few years I've been having issues with it.

It seems no matter what I cook, it ends up with either a metallic tinge to it or is sickly sweet. I noticed the sweetness first, and thought it was down to using carrots. But even when I stopped putting them in, I would still get a weird aftertaste. Then I started noticing the metallic taste and nothing I do takes it away. I add lots of seasoning and spices etc but the tinny taste persists.

What am I doing wrong???? I'm a bit heartbroken annoyed because I know it wasn't always like this, and I can't figure out what I'm doing differently Confused

Random thought but I often notice a metallic taste if I use veg with skins on like peppers or tomatoes - peppers especially just taste horrible!

That's interesting, I do use peppers sometimes but not all the time. I use tinned tomatoes a lot but they're skin off. I find it even happens with beef stew (that goes really watery, but that's another story).

Does everyone notice the sweet / metallic taste or just you?

You can get slow cooker liners I believe , it might help with the taste ?

I don't notice it so much with the tinned tomatoes to be fair. I would maybe try a recipe without veg - maybe just chicken or beef in gravy and see if it's still the same!
