Weekend in Harrogate

I’m being treated to an unexpected child-free weekend in Harrogate. Does anyone have any suggestions of lovely things to see or do whilst we’re there? A friend mentioned tea and cake at Betty’s, which we’ll definitely seek out. Anything else?
Thanks

I don't really like having tea at Betty's

But I do go and stock up from the shop.

Just down the hill from there is Farrah's sweetie shop, which is definitely worth a visit.

It's not the most interesting walk, but you can get to Harlow Carr on foot (if the roads are all buggered up)

Parkrun 09:00 on the Stray

Neither do I Scaevola.

Hosting UCI is meant to be good for us 😂, tourism, economy, etc., etc..

It will be over soon.

You can enjoy the free fanzone OP, this weekend is family themed though and you are child free but free entertainment nonetheless.

Jarvis Cocker 🤷🏻‍♀️ next weekend. I think I will travel to the free entertainment in Ripon instead. Last night of the proms 🇬🇧 next Saturday evening.

Bettys is definitely not closed for the cycling but you can’t book

If you’re into garden, then Harlow Carr Gardens is a must. You’re also a short journey by train or car to York.

I love the walk through the Pinewoods from Valley Gardens to Harlow Carr.

Nice walk to Harlow Carr and the Betty's there from Valley Gardens through the Pine Woods.

Have a walk along the Stray lovely shops, fantastic antique curiosity shop too. Further along there is Wootons much better coffee/food than Betty's it's a deli sells fab food and unusual items.

Definitely worth a visit. Enjoy.

@Foslady . Depends where the scout camp in but whole swathes of roads and villages all around Harrogate are shut for up to 7 hours today. We can't really move today aside from walking out which is fine. Next Friday is same again but for lesser times so a couple of hours at a time generally

I also second Harlow Carr.

We’ve had a lovely weekend in Harrogate, the cycling hasn’t gotten in the way too much at all. The roads are closed from 12-4pm so we’ve explored on foot, and there are crossing points so we’ve been able to get around the town fine. The shops, turkish baths, and restaurants have been a bit quieter than we would have expected, we’ve had the run of the place!
The atmosphere has been great, loads of people cheering on the cyclists and the fabulous weather has helped. We’re going to escape Harrogate early this morning before the road closes (hopefully!) and go over to Brimham Rocks before heading home. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Great you have had a good time and enjoyed visiting Harrogate. We love it

There's the most amazing cake shop called MamaDoreen go there for Halloween themed afternoon tea!

Harrogate is like party that lots of people have been invite to but no-one has turned up.

Everywhere is open but very very quiet. The restaurants are empty and the shops are deserted.

Isn't Jarvis Cocker acting as a DJ rather than performing?

I prefer valley gardens over Harlow Carr
Valley gardens are free and also have a nice tea room
Just not Betty’s
I love tk max in the centre
They have a whole floor to themselves with nice airy windows..can get a bit hot in summer though
Knaresbourogh is lovely too...cafes do tend to shut way too early though
