I messed up with a family member, what to do?

I have a relative I was always close with, we had a lovely time over the summer and we were meant to celebrate an occasion together a few weeks ago but due to some things going not to plan, jetlag and exhaustion, I didn't give the occasion much thought and at the last minute I made a plan. However the relative got really mad with me, and told me to f off and I have ruined everything. In a way, I did mess up because I was disorganised from my end but I got mad at the texts I received so didn't bother. But now I feel super guilty and I am not sure what the next step is... Any suggestions or advice welcome!

Can you send a hand written note apologising for the fall out? Perhaps accompanied by some flowers.

Acknowledge that you had things going on such as the jet lag but don’t embellish it as an excuse, say how sorry you are to have neglected them and the occasion and now that life is calmer you very much regret it and would like to get back the happy relationship you had before.

Do f go on and on, keep it as short as possible and don’t be melodramatic or put words into their mouth.
