Bloody bloody insomnia! I'm knackered. Doing loads of exercise, losing weight (I really need to), everything going well except....I can't fucking sleep. Trid everything. The only thing that works for me is Zopiclone and my GP won't give me any more of it because it's addictive (fair enough, I've just given up smoking so in no hurry to get hooked on anything else).

I just wanted to moan, really. DH has narcolepsy and sleeps like a baby. I lie awake feeling utterly miserable. Sad Angry

Try taking magnesium and I have succumbed to 2 piriton every evening Blush

I can't exercise in the evening else it impacts on my sleep, as does eating late etc.

AnybodyWantAChip · 17/09/2019 23:39

You can buy zopliclone online without a prescription. I find just having some in my bedside cabinet helps because I feel I have a choice. I hardly ever use it but like knowing I could if I needed to.

Yeah I have some for dire emergencies too!

That's very tempting, but I worry I would end up taking it every night, because I just don't sleep without it...and I am on several other medications, so my doctor would need to know Sad

Does Piriton knock you out then?

Try to get hold of some melatonin online rather than sleeping tablets. Piriton is worth a go in the meantime.

AnybodyWantAChip · 17/09/2019 23:48

Sorry that wasn't a pc answer. Here is the pc response;
Good diet
No booze
Lots of exercise
Same bed time routine every night
Dark room
Keep it cool
No phone or TV in bedroom.

If that fails, then take the drugs. Grin

pigeononthegate · 17/09/2019 23:49

I'm already doing all of that AnybodyWantAChip, that's what's so sodding frustrating. I'm so sick of feeling like crap because I can't sleep!

Phenergan works wonders for me. I have to break 25mg tablets in half because a whole one has me sleeping for too long.

RightYesButNo · 18/09/2019 00:07

You mention that you’re on medications. Any chance that any of them could be contributing to this? For example, if you have to take any steroids like prednisone, or other medications for autoimmune conditions or asthma, they can cause sleeplessness.

I feel for you OP, have chronic insomnia, need to lose weight and just returned to gym and on day 3 of not smoking! Trying to eat sensibly, exercise and give up smoking feels a lot to take on all at the same time and think anxiety is contributing to the insomnia. I have a few Zopiclone in reserve but only get given them a couple of times a year by doc due to their addictive nature. Insomnia is a pig, my body feels exhausted, eyes prickly and sore from being so tired, yet the head is on fast spin with no off switch

RandomMess · 18/09/2019 07:10

Piriton has a mild sedative effect on most people.

It knocks some people out but not me.

MaidenMotherCrone · 18/09/2019 11:08

I use Nightnurse when I can't stand another night waiting for the morning. Works for me.

SpoonBlender · 18/09/2019 11:17

What time of day are you exercising? I always find if I do something energetic in the evening it takes ages to get to sleep.
