Anyone seen it? My 10yr old DS has seen a trailer and wants to see it (he's very into space) - I can't work out from the brief reviews I've seen if its suitable or not. Its a 12a which says younger kids can go if accompanied by an adult....

Oh just realised its not out yet, hence so few reviews!

Makes me think of pizza

BanKittenHeels · 17/09/2019 11:51

The advert made me say “well that’s terrifying, I won’t ever watch that” but I can’t remember why now!

I’ve just come back from watching it. I can honestly say it’s the dullest film I’ve ever seen. You know some films are gently dull? This film is aggressively dull. I ended up not caring what happened to any of the characters except Brad Pitt whose demise I was actively hoping for just so it would be over.

MrsMaudwatts · 18/09/2019 23:11

Haha! Really? I was hoping it would be good 😏

I literally fell asleep and I’m sure the woman three seats over did too (there were only about 10 people there). I woke up with a start about 15 mins before the end having slept for 20 minutes. I thought I must have missed the good bit but turns out there wasn’t one.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 19/09/2019 00:13

Bbfc is usually good for reviews and age recommendations.

100PercentThatBitch · 19/09/2019 00:22

I saw this earlier

Extremely dull and unexplained plot/plot holes you could drive a bus through

I think your 10 yo will be bored to tears

Would I be remiss in posting a mild spoiler to ask the other poster who has seen it a question ?

Actually I think I can do without so

What the actual fuck was that Mayday subplot? @GlitchyWitch

This felt like "Brad Pitt Wants An Oscar"

I very much doubt he'll be nominated

Aggressively dull is a great description

It is pretentious plop

maddy68 · 19/09/2019 00:23

Just come in from watching it. What a bore ... Basically floating in space for three hours nothing really happens ...save your money

GlitchyWitch · 19/09/2019 01:06

I don’t know 😳

Honestly I was so bored I kept struggling to focus. At one point I started to gaze at the ceiling.

I actually started to get mildly stressed because it was getting on my nerves so much. Especially BPs monotone voiceover bits. By the end it was all I could do to stop myself yelling “Oh shut UP 😡”

I bet Angelina’s laughing herself sick 😁

Newmummysu · 19/09/2019 01:33

I saw the poster for it today, I won't bother watching by the sounds of it! :-)

Maskin · 23/09/2019 10:41

Is it just me who thought his dad was a figment of his imagination??

BoogleMcGroogle · 23/09/2019 11:00

Okay, so my husband loved this film. This is because his three main criteria for a great film are:
Full of spaceships
Full of angst
Nothing much happens

My husband's taste in films is the polar opposite of that of a ten year old boy ( spaceships notwithstanding)

it's a continuing source of sadness to him that the Late Russian director Tarkovsky didn't make more spaceship films. He once made me watch a three hour Bergman film in which some people mostly looked at some fields. In Swedish.

I love a bit of Freudian angst. And Brad Pitt undoubtedly puts in a great performance. But I can't argue with the fact that it's very, very slow. On the plus side, there's a brief cameo from a psychotic space gibbon. DH claims that flurry of action almost spoiled the film for him Hmm

What I'm saying is, Only take your ten year old to see it if you don't really like him very much. 🚀

BoogleMcGroogle · 23/09/2019 11:02

maskin we wondered that on the way home. I thought that was left deliberately ambiguous. I sort of wondered if it was all a figment of his imagination. He's probably just an electrician living just outside Detroit, trying to reframe how come his daddy upped and left.

MercyBookoo · 23/09/2019 22:08

Boogle - that really made me laugh 😁

JumpyLiz · 23/09/2019 22:13

Think I'll give this a swerve and just go to Pizza Express instead.

CallarMorvern · 23/09/2019 22:46

Ah, that's a shame as it has John Finn in it, I have an unhealthy liking for him...

MrsMaudwatts · 23/09/2019 23:20

😂😂😂 love this thread. I'll have to see it now! At the moment I like my DS enough not to subject him to it, but we'll see...😂

I saw it yesterday, the Guardian byline for the review had it right - "Brad Pitt sulks in space" pretty dull but your son might the enjoy the space scenery, the visuals are good, and even the scary bit is more absurd and funny than scary.

MercyBookoo · 27/09/2019 23:58

“Brad Pitt sulks in space” 😂😂😂
