Gorden Kaye and a swan - am I misremembering?

RapunzelsRealMom · 15/09/2019 20:56

'Allo 'Allo is on a Sky channel right now and I was telling my daughter about the leading actor, Gorden Kaye, suffering a terrible brain injury when his car hit a swan which broke through his windscreen and caused him to crash.

DH and DDs looked at me like I had lost the plot entirely, DH saying that could never happen!

Cue me being very smug, googling for proof, and I can find no mention of a swan incident anywhere. Lots of websites refer to a crash during a storm but no swan.

Seriously, did I dream this? I've mentioned it in conversations once or twice over the many years since it happened and no one raised an eyebrow at me.

Does anyone remember this??? Please?

Is this going to be one of those Mandela Effect things?

(I don't recall a swan)

Gingernaut · 15/09/2019 21:01

It was an advertising hoarding

huntinghighandlow · 15/09/2019 21:02

Didn't a advertising board fall on him in high winds? Or was that Leslie Crowther??

JoyceJeffries · 15/09/2019 21:02

He did have a serious car crash but it wasn’t a swan.

Pinkarsedfly · 15/09/2019 21:02

It was a big piece of wood. Not sure where the swan comes into it.

Though it could have broken his arm if it had been there.

I haven't googled but I thought he was hit by some wood, I don't remember a swan

redexpat · 15/09/2019 21:07

Wasnt it a tree that came down on his car in the hurricane in 87?

Holymolymackerel · 15/09/2019 21:08

He has a scar on his forehead in the later episodes. It was a tree branch that landed on his car and penetrated his skull.

It was the wind storms of 1987. Michael Fish dismissed the rumour of an impending hurricane from a viewer. It happened that night and injured Gordon Kaye. It was touch and go for a time and there was a time when docs thought it had caused brain damage as a piece of brain was removed in a operation.

UrsulaPandress · 15/09/2019 21:08

I thought it was an advertising hoarding.

Although he may have run into it whilst avoiding a swan 🦢

Longdistance · 15/09/2019 21:09

It was a plank of wood iirc.

Swan? Not so sure where you’re getting that from?

Sewbean · 15/09/2019 21:10

Did you mishear storm for swan when you first heard the story?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/09/2019 21:10

Or was that Leslie Crowther??
Ah, Lesley Crowther had a car crash, cause unknown, the day after attending a dinner in Swansea! I think we can all agree, that clears that up then. Grin

Saucery · 15/09/2019 21:11

Are you thinking of Rod Hull and Emu? He died in a storm too while fixing his TV aerial.

huntinghighandlow · 15/09/2019 21:12

Okay, Wikipedia says Gordon Kaye was driving and a piece of advertising hoarding smashed through the windscreen and hit him. Leslie Crowther was in a regular car crash and it was believed he fell asleep at the wheel.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 15/09/2019 21:12

I thought an advertising hoarding in high winds. Don’t remember a swan.

Grambler · 15/09/2019 21:15

It's just you and the swan.

RapunzelsRealMom · 15/09/2019 21:16

I feel like a right idiot now!

I honestly feel I remember that a swan crashed through his windscreen, flapped about and caused him an awful brain injury. I even chatted to my dad about it! He's bloody dead now so I can't even ask him!!

Yes you're all right, and goggle agrees. Where the fuck did I get that from?!

As you were

Internet says he died of dementia in the care home where he had lived for the last 2 years of his life. He didn't recognise anyone, not even himself and lived in his own world.

Puppylucky · 15/09/2019 21:16

It was a plank of wood in a storm in the early 1990's not the 87 one.

Fabio (very much an 80s D list celebrity) was hit in the face by a goose when he was on a roller coaster.
