Mistakes you’ve made due to sleep deprivation?

OH is away for work and will be back in two weeks (gone for a total of 5 weeks) meaning I’m currently on my own with 14 month old dd who still wakes anywhere between 2 and 8 times a night.

As well as staying on top of the housework, cooking what seems like 500 meals a day for my fussy little bean I’m also in full time school studying a science based subject meaning naptimes and late nights are spent cramming in revision.

I. Need. Sleep.

Thought that having the weekend off with dd would be nice and relaxing, no need to rush all over town dropping her to nursery then rushing off to lessons, rushing back to collect her, going to the park, cooking, tidying up, laundry .. bed time.. revision.. sleep.. wake up.. sleep.. wake up.. sleep.. WAKE UP
But nope! Entertaining a toddler when I’m running on next to no energy is tough! So Mumsnet.. give me your bed sleep deprivation stories! I’ll start off my with little number from yesterday.

I went to put dry shampoo in my unwashed hair and instead sprayed fabric glue all over my roots. Wish I could say I realised straight away but it was only when I had covered my whole head and started trying to rub it all in Grin

Think I may need to shave all my hair off.

Fell asleep on the toilet, pitched forward and broke my nose on the sink.

Got in the bath without taking my clothes off first.

Took the dog for a walk and only realised after 10 minutes I had forgotten to bring the dog.

Oh no 🙈 I hope it comes out ok?!

Not long after my DD was born I went to the post office on my first official outing as a parent, to post some parcels.

Stood in the queue for 10 mins, got to the cashier and realised I hadn’t brought the parcels. Wanted to cry. Blush

Opened the door to the postman with one boob out.

Opened the door to the postman with one boob out.

I opened the door to a delivery man with BOTH boobs out and it took me at least five minutes in my delirium to realise why he went wide-eyed and acted so awkwardly.

Expressed milk. Went to clean the pump. Tipped the milk down sink.

DC1 was in SCBU at the time and every ml counted. ☹

Double dosed a patient with medication Sad I didn't check the kardex properly and never realised she was given it already. DS at that time was a very poor sleeper and would wake me continually through the night.

Oh, I also poured a huge pot of chicken broth that I had been simmering for hours straight down the sink through a colander because I neglected to put a bowl under it. All I wanted in the world right them was some comforting chicken soup. Baby was cluster feeding like mad and I felt like a lorry ran me over. I actually cried over that one.

Tried to make my MIL a cup of coffee. Poured boiling water into the half full coffee jar.

I turned right into what I thought was a gap junction in the middle of a dual carriageway but it actually a turn right filter lane at traffic lights for the other side of the carriageway 😳 I got stopped by the police, who took pity on me, luckily. I’d driven that route many times before. My children overlapped with their not sleeping, and both didn’t sleep through until they were 4, so I’ve made lots of mistakes, but that was the worst.

Brushed my teeth with Savlon.

Not the minty taste I was expecting...

HotChocolateLover · 15/09/2019 10:00

Went to buy a freezer with DS in the car seat in the back. Went in the shop, looked around for about 10 minutes, chose a freezer and paid. Got In the car and drove off. 5 minutes later remembered that DS was there. Weirdly my mum was there too and also forgot him! He was only about 3 weeks only 🤦‍♀️

Agreed to host a family weekend when I literally hadn’t slept for 7 months. I was a mess, it ended in tears and things haven’t quite been the same between us all since. Sad

Moonflower12 · 15/09/2019 10:16

@Spandang
I've done that too! Very odd taste.

I've done the chicken soup down the sink thing too.

Gone out in non- matching shoes!

Had a panic because I couldn't remember where I'd left DD1. ( safely at my mums!)
