Did anybody else have this children's book collection?

It came as a month-by-month subscription, and you got a classic children's book (The Secret Garden, Moonfleet, Treasure Island etc) and a fact file all about the book/author? DS1 is just starting on mine and it makes me so happy Smile

Won't load the picture for some reason, but they are all leather bound in red, blue, and green, with gold embossed titles.

Yes! Those exact books. I tried to post an almost identical picture but MN was playing funny buggers. The fact files are currently at my parents' house, but they've promised they'll bring them up next time they come so DS1 can look at them.

I have very anally arranged ours on the shelf so they go red, green, blue all the way along Blush

VeThings · 15/09/2019 07:59

Are they abridged versions?

Trumpton · 15/09/2019 08:14

Not abridged .
Now see what you have started ....

“When Mary Lennox was sent to Misselthwaite Manor to live with her uncle, everyone said she was the most disagreeable-looki g child ever seen . “

I don't think so, barring one Shakespeare collection. Certainly the ones I've re-read recently have been the full whack.

Sorry (not sorry). That's the one DS has gone for. I'm in the middle of Ballet Shoes Grin

Ooh! I've just started recreating my childhood library with the new puffin clothbound books, they are lush! I thought I was the only person who got excited about this kind of stuff, I can't wait to have enough so I can colour arrange them. So nice that you have your original collection from childhood.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 15/09/2019 09:19

Yes! Even managed to pick one up in French.

My mum still has them. Will have to somehow move them up here for my wee one.

Some of them at least are abridged. The full version of Lorna Doone is much longer than the CA version.

Fookinwot · 15/09/2019 09:21

No and I’m beyond jealous 😤

TitchyP · 15/09/2019 10:01

I think I have some of those.

The Secret Garden is such a wonderful book.

TeenPlusTwenties · 15/09/2019 10:27

But that's just wrong !

Everyone knows you arrange books in blocks of colour!

MinervaVause · 15/09/2019 11:21

I have most of these. I managed to get 6 that I didn’t have quite recently on my local FB selling page. I’ve spent years trying to find the rest of the collection.

Can anyone remember how many there were in total?

My boys have started on them. Robin Hood and Treasure Island.

Mine go Red, Green, Blue along my shelf.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 15/09/2019 11:42

@MinervaVause - there are 52 in total. Full list here.

Loyaultemelie · 15/09/2019 11:45

Oh I absolutely loved this series Moonfleet was my favourite

Lessstressedhemum · 15/09/2019 13:58

My eldest kids had these. We still have all 52 upstairs waiting for any grandchildren 😃

Sewrainbow · 15/09/2019 15:43

I've got a similar set from1970s that are all red bound faux leather, with gold embossing, still love them so much and I still read them, can't my boys interested though sadly Sad

snozzlemaid · 15/09/2019 15:49

What a great collection to have.

Ginger1982 · 15/09/2019 16:21

Yes I got these too!!!

HeadintheiClouds · 15/09/2019 17:18

Oh, they are beautiful Envy

janj2301 · 15/09/2019 21:15

I had them when my girls were young. Eventually got rid of all the magazine's, kept the books until a couple of years ago.

Trumpton · 15/09/2019 22:14

Just checked I have all 52 and the magazines!

NextTrainGoesToBEROWRA · 16/09/2019 01:21

Want! Maybe an epic kids’ set of books would get me back into properly reading again.
